October treat for you on the last slide!

Spent most of the month working on redoing our product photography and updating our Not On The High Street shops. Oh, and hobbling around with an ankle the size of a tennis ball after I rolled it and fell, oh-so-beautifully, arse over tit. And it’s still swollen now, 4 weeks later! Ouchy.

It wasn’t the best month, but it wasn’t the worst!

Will we hit 100k sales on Etsy before our business birthday in December?

How was your October?

I’m not gonna lie- it’s a scary time for creatives at the moment. People have less money to spend on luxury goods, and free ai slop is a tempting option for many.

Selling handmade greeting cards for £5+ in a world where e-cards, ai-generated slop and text messages exist, well, it doesn’t always feel like the brightest idea 💡🤦‍♀️

But ai and digital messaging will never be able to replace the feeling of opening a high quality, personalised, hand-crafted, hand-written greeting card that has been carefully chosen and made just for you.

Choose to support real humans making real things.

Now, if we could all just share this message with everyone we know, that would be great 👍

The 90s paper lover grew up to have impeccable taste.

If your school notebooks were beautifully covered in wallpaper samples and filled with geometric ‘Cool S’ doodles, you were already a sentimentalaholic in training.

In the 90s, we didn’t just ‘stay in touch’. We wrote letters by hand, curated our sticker albums and carefully folded secret notes into perfect little triangles to pass on in the corridors.

We understood, even back then, that text on paper had weight. It had meaning.

Fast-forward to today and that love for the tactile and the crafted hasn’t left you. You’ve simply upgraded.

Instead of glitter glue and scented stationery, you now appreciate the uniqueness of handcrafted and artist-made products. You wrap thoughtful gifts in beautiful papers from small businesses and you love planning Christmas more than you love the day itself.

If this sounds like you, welcome! You’re in the right place 💌🎁🖋️💖

A world where greetings cards are ‘just the thing you have to give with the gift’?!?

No, thanks.

I’m a big believer in greeting cards.

As I get older, I appreciate them so much more-

💖 The care that went into choosing something I’d love

💗 The time that went into hand- writing a meaningful message inside

💝 The physical connection between me and the person who took the time to send me the card.

💌 The keepsake that I’ll find in my memory box in 30 years and cry happy tears because it reminds me of them

If you love greeting cards as much as I do, you’re in the right place. My name is Emma and I am obsessed with thoughtful and excessively effortful gifting. I’d describe my gift wrapping style as maximalist, and my unused notebook collection as necessary.

I’d love it if you stuck around- let’s talk about gifting as a whole event, rather than a boring obligation.

Because “To [name], Happy Birthday, from [name]” is a bit of a snooze-fest.

The next time you go to write a birthday card, why not deviate from the usual birthday message and try something more creative?

These are just a few of my favourite unique birthday wishes to write in a card. And if you found this useful, I’ve written a whole load of “what to write in a card” blog posts for all occasions- they are all on the website.

Save this post for future-you!

Still my absolute favourite way to decorate gift wrapping.

If you love wrapping gifts, you’ll want to save this for Christmas!

Grab any scraps of coloured papers- I used what I had to hand in the studio, but magazines or even packaging would work well.

Punch coloured holes and create a sellotape-width line of them on a smooth, pet-hair free, fluff-free surface.

Grab some sticky tape and cut to long enough that it’ll wrap around the gift.

Sticky side down, pick up the paper holes with your tape. Make sure you leave a few gaps so the tape will still stick to the paper!

Stick the tape to the gift (sticky-and-hole-side down)

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I’m Emma, a laser cutting, card making, stationery designing small business owner who loves to make things excessively effortful. If you’re the type of person who loves to go the extra mile when it comes to gifts, you’re in the right place.

Let’s be honest, keeping track of everyone’s special day is a full time logistical operation.

Half the time we’re celebrating that we remembered the card while quietly praying we didn’t accidentally leave it on the kitchen counter as we rushed out the door after spending 20 minutes looking for our keys (which we eventually found in the fridge)

But those physical reminders of our love- the beautifully wrapped gift, the handwritten card, the post-it note in their lunch, they are always worth the effort.

In a digital world of instant messaging and constant communication, taking the time to physically create, write or send something to someone is such a beautiful way to say “you matter”.

And even if you don’t think they appreciate it, they definitely do.

I admit, putting my phone under the laser cutter in the name of the gram, not my best idea 😂

But on the plus side, I do get to share a cool new view of our laser cut cards being made.

Thankfully it survived and all is good. ADHD has a lot to answer for. 🤦‍♀️

For the record, please do not do this.

Long live the keepers of the paper trail.

There is a distinct magic to the way we grew up. We lived in a gloriously tactile world; that place between analog and digital.

We knew the anticipation of waiting for our photos to develop, the heartbreak of a snapped tape ribbon and the thrill of finding a hand-addressed envelope in the post.

If you spent your teenage years spraying Impulse on handwritten letters or agonising over your handwriting in a new journal, you were training for this.

You aren’t old-fashioned for wanting to send an intricately laser cut card instead of a WhatsApp message.

Your favourite people deserve more than words on a screen and photographs in the cloud.

I’m Emma, and I create pieces of paper art in my Cornwall studio for the sentimental girlies who never lost their wonder.

We don’t make regular greeting cards.

We make the kind of greeting cards that make people leave reviews like this:

“The quality of the item is exquisite”

“Fabulous card, will be kept as a keepsake by the person who received it”

“My sister-in-law is going to LOVE this card made especially for her.”

These are just a handful of the 20k+ 5 star reviews we’ve received. Take a look over on our website if you want to see more nice things people have said about our cards.
