Ice cream parlour

Welcome to our ice cream parlour. The INTENT came from all the children interests after singing outside during their play.

The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by getting out different resources such as different coloured tissue paper, scoops, blocks for the flakes and sprinkles. The children soon got to work by designing their own ice creams and tubs SC was putting a mixture of the ice cream in the bowl while Sarah H was helping the children design cones by using the tissue paper to wrap around a maraca. PD was placing the tissue paper into the silver goblets, she said it was an ice cream drink. Cheryl told the children how much the ice creams cost which were £1.50. We had TB has the ice cream man were he was asking the children what flavour they would like. We also had flakes which were 50p and sprinkles for 50p.

The INTENT was that the children used their imagination and skills to promote their fine motor skills while creating their ice creams.

During this activity the areas of learning are :

PERSONAL AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
COMMUNICATION AND DEVELOPMENT
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
EXPRESSIVE ART AND DESIGN

At home you could take the children to an ice cream van to see where the ice cream comes from and the different flavours.

Well Done 🦉

Happy 3rd birthday MY! 🎈🎂

WELCOME TO PENGUIN CITY 🏙️

Today in Penguins we have been celebrating our friend MY’s 3rd birthday where we followed on from his current interest in vehicles and rolling. So the ladies created a city full of vehicles and different items to roll the cars along and down to. The children had great fun rolling the cars down the different ramps and seeing how fast they roll. The children worked together to collect the cars and did a great job sharing them out, we took the cars around the map finding different routes for us to take and using the loose parts as obstacles too. We spoke about road signs and what they mean and how they can keep us safe too. The children had a fabulous time going on different adventures and telling the ladies all the different places we were going. We later went on to play with the balloons and have a dance with our friends.

Later on at snack time we enjoyed some Yummy cake kindly provided by MY’s parents, thank you so much for providing this cake too. 🍰🥳

All in all we have had a fabulous day celebrating MY’s 3rd birthday and developing our imaginative play, fine and gross motor skills and so much more throughout our play too. We can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:

🎉Physical development 🎉

🎂Communication and language🎂

🥳Personal, social, and emotional development🥳

🎈Mathematics🎈

🥰Understanding the world🥰

🎊Literacy🎊

PlayDough morning! 🌼

What will you use to explore the playdough? 🌼🍃

Today in Penguin’s we have been busy exploring the play dough we made earlier on today with the ladies where we helped the ladies to mix all the ingredients and create our yellow play dough. Throughout we were using the natural resources to explore the play dough enveloping them inside the play dough before squashing and squeezing the PlayDough exploring the texture. The children let their imagination run wild and began creating different things telling the ladies all the different things they had made. We spoke about what we had made and how we could enhance it further too.

The INENT of this activity was to allow the children to develop their interest whilst also exploring the natural resources too. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of different items for the children to use to enhance their play dough play. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to develop their imagination whilst also getting creative too.

All in all the children had a busy morning exploring our play dough, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in different ways such as:

Dinosaur World 🌍

Today it was all about dinosaur 🦕 world. The intent came from KY interests.

The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by getting out different dinosaurs 🦕, sand, wooden sticks, and water along with different objects and a book about dinosaurs to show the children how to find out information on them. The children soon got to work by selecting the dinosaurs. KY was able to name quite a lot of them as he particularly likes dinosaurs. He was able to name the Terri tops, stegosaurus, TRex. CC was moulding the sand together he told Cheryl it was a volcano and he was hiding his dinosaur there so no one could find him. PD told Cheryl that you find dinosaurs in dino world where they eat leaves. During the activity EV,HDJ,PD were using their hands to collect sand to make a fish mould. HDJ said look Cheryl I have made a shell print out of the sand.

The IMPACT showed the children that they could use their skills and imagination to create different places for the dinosaurs to go, how to look at the book on the dinosaurs to find out information on them,

During this activity the areas of learning are :

PERSONAL SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

Monday 1st June 2026

Good Morning Owls,

Welcome back to the second half of summer term!

Today in the Owls room it was all about shadows, let’s make a shadow!
How can you use the resources to make a shadow? What shapes or letters can you see?

The ladies had set up a learning opportunity and gathered resources together such as the LED light screen that changes different colours, coloured pencils and paper, different wooden shapes, pinecones and some chess pieces. Sarah gathered a group at a time over to the provocation and asked each group what are shadows? A few knew but child CC replied with “what is a shadow Sarah?”. Sarah explained it is something that reflects the light, for example, Sarah asked the Owls to lean over and wiggle their fingers. Owls what can you see in the light? Most of the Owls could say “it is our fingers” we then carried on making different shapes and shadows with our fingers, child PD said “look a butterfly”.

We then used the pencils and paper to draw what the different resources the shadows made. While the Owls were busy drawing away Sarah noticed something “Look Owls the cardboard tube has made a shadow, it looks like something familiar. Who can guess what it looks like?”. Child VN said “it’s a party hat”. Some of the children were also drawing around the colour pallets shadow carefully copying the shape. Child HDG had noticed the pencils and the pot were casting a shadow on the paper, it looked like spikes. Child HDG used the different coloured pencils to draw their own interpretation of what they saw. Concentrating so hard at the end it looked like a rainbow 🌈.

Well done Owls great work learning all about shadows!

Ducklings🐥

1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive🐠🫧🎣

Today in Ducklings we have been exploring one of our favourite songs during song time ‘12345 once I caught a fish alive’. The interest of this activity came from child RAJ and RGJ interest in the fish lamps through the room. These lamps add a cosy sensory vibe to our room as well for our younger children to explore colours.

Intent🐠
The Intent of this activity was to support children's physical development, turn-taking skills, and early mathematical language through a fun, water-based activity inspired by the nursery rhyme ’12345 once I a caught a fish alive’🐠

Implementation🫧
The children used nets to scoop and catch colourful fish floating in the baby bath. They carefully swung their nets through the water, trying to catch as many fish as they could. The children practised sharing by taking turns with the nets and worked together as they explored the different coloured fish they could see and catch.🫧

Impact🎣
The children showed great enthusiasm and perseverance as they developed their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. They demonstrated social skills by sharing resources and waiting for their turn. The activity also encouraged language development as the children talked about the different colours of the fish and counted how many they had caught.🎣
