Penguin’s 🐧

Our MONSTER Biscuits 👹 🍪

Today in Penguin’s we have been super busy making our yummy Monster biscuits which led on from the children’s interest in the spooky season and baking at home too. We started off by washing our hands so they were super clean before coming over and creating our icing to place into our biscuits, some of the children chose to mix up the colours and watch them bleed into each other creating a cool pattern. We then went on to add on our spooky eyeballs to make our monster biscuits even cooler! We spoke about the monster we created and some of the children chose to name their monster biscuits too.🍪

The INTENT of this act out was to allow the children to make a yummy snack and express themselves. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of different icing to use alongside the biscuits and decorations too. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to get creative and enjoy a yummy snack! 👹🍪

All in all we have had a fabulous morning making our yummy Monster Biscuits, we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

🦉Owls

🎃Pumpkin Painting🎨

Today, in Owls, we have been painting our pumpkins! The children have shown lots of interest in Halloween and pumpkins, so we focused on this and read Christopher Pumpkin together, then the children have enjoyed exploring different colours, shapes and making prints on the pumpkins! We had pumpkins of different colours and sizes and the children spoke about what they would like on their pumpkins and what they have carved, painted or drawn on their pumpkins at home!

The intent of this activity was to focus on the children’s creativity and communication. We worked together as a group to decorate all of our pumpkins, the children were to share their ideas with one another, as well as explore new ideas, what they can orient with, what colours would work best and how they could incorporate their friends ideas too!

The ladies implemented this activity by setting up pumpkins, paints, paint brushes, spiders and potato mashers and allowed the children to explore their own ideas with these resources! We encouraged the children to use the paintbrushes and different mark making tools to create their own designs- some wanted to make horses and others wanted cars!

The impact of this activity was that the children focused on their team work and communication, talking about all of their different ideas and trying to work together to make these on the pumpkin. They also improved their own creativity, thinking of new ideas and creative ways to print the paint onto the pumpkins!

All in all, we have had a fabulous day creating our painted pumpkins and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later!

Ducklings🐥

Pumpkin Guts🎃👻🤎

Today in Ducklings we have been exploring pumpkin guts from the pumpkin that Angel craved yesterday for us.🎃👻🤎

Intent🎃
The children were invited to explore pumpkin guts through a fun, hands-on sensory experience. Our intention was to encourage curiosity, exploration and discovery by allowing the children to investigate the pumpkin using their hands, spoons and a variety of other resources. This experience supported the children in exploring different textures, smells, sights and sounds in a safe, stimulating environment.🎃

Implementation👻
The children were encouraged to touch, squeeze, scoop, stir and move the pumpkin seeds and guts using their hands and a range of tools. They explored the slimy, squishy and slippery textures, observed the bright orange colours and seeds, noticed the earthy smell and listened to the sounds made as the pumpkin guts were squished, scooped and dropped into containers. Throughout the experience, the ladies supported the children’s learning by modelling language, naming what the children could see and feel, and allowing them time to explore at their own pace.👻

Impact🤎
Through this sensory-rich experience, the children had opportunities to develop their curiosity, confidence and independence while making sense of the world through their senses. They strengthened their fine motor skills, explored cause and effect, encountered new vocabulary and began to develop early mathematical concepts through filling, emptying and manipulating resources. The experience also encouraged the children to make choices, experiment and engage in meaningful, hands-on learning.🤎

Penguin’s 🐧

Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble 🫧 🧙‍♀️

Today in Penguin’s we have been making a witches brew using a range of different resources we have around the room, also getting us into the spooky mood. This activity led on from the children’s interest in water and messy play! We started off by exploring the different resources we had to use to enhance and create our witches brew from pumpkin guts, to chai gloop, to natural resources to etc. The children then began getting creative using the pippets to squeeze the coloured water into our brew alongside all the different resources. We mixed up our potion and made it super spooky adding eyeballs and spiders too. We had so much fun creating our witches brew and getting creative using our imagination throughout too.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to use their imagination and explore different textures using the different resources. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a wide range of resources for the children to use. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to use their imagination, get creative and explore the different textures too.

All in all we have had a fabulous morning making our Witches Brew, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Dinosaur 🦖 World

Today, in Owls room, the children have been discovering about dinosaurs 🦕.The ladies set up different dinosaurs with different coloured objects. The children explored using their fine motor skills of how to move the dinosaurs around.

The intent of this activity was for the children to focus on their fine motor skills, literacy and colour identification. We focused on naming the different dinosaurs by using the question and answer book all about dinosaurs.

The ladies implemented this activity by setting different dinosaurs, different sized pieces of wood so that the children could do an obstacle course. ND and KP made a dinosaur home by using the building blocks of wood and tyres.

The impact of this activity was that children worked on their fine motor skills.We also developed our communication skills, talking about what we were doing.

Our walk to find leaves 🍂

Today we went for a little walk around our local area to collect leaves! We found a wide range of coloured leaves and so many different shapes which we spoke about as we walked around too.

Penguin’s 🐧

OH SO SPOOKY GLOOP! 🕷️👻👁️🎃

Today in Penguin’s we have been exploring the spooky Gloop the ladies had created for us to explore following on from our interest in gloop and messy play whilst also offering opportunities to explore different Halloween items too. The children started off by exploring the different items around the tray before using them to enhance the gloop and even scoop using the spoon too transporting the gloop and resources around the tray too. Throughout we spoke about the colours of the gloop, what it sounded like as it fell back into the tray and so much more. The children were able to identify some of the items we had around us and used them to develop their own play. Some of the Penguin’s even had the idea to scoop up the gloop and then drizzle it on pumpkin.

The INTENT of this activity was for the children to explore the gloop and use their different resources to enhance their play further. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having different natural items alongside the Gloop. The IMPACT of this activity was to allow the children to explore the GLOOP, use their imagination and schemas, and of course have fun.

All in all the children had a brilliant morning exploring the spooky GLOOP in the garden and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!🍂

🦉Owls

🧪Potion Making🧙

Today, in Owls room, the children have been making potions! The ladies set up a table with different coloured objects and slimes. The children explored using tweezers and pipettes to practise their fine motor skills. We enjoyed reading Meg’s Castle and decided we would help Meg make some potions to help the knight!

The intent of this activity was for the children to focus on their fine motor skills, literacy and colour identification. We focused on naming the different colours, using tweezers and pipettes to practise our fine motor skills and mixing colours.

The ladies implemented this activity by setting up a table with spiders, different containers, ‘potions’, pipettes and tweezers, as well as pumpkins! The ladies then sat and made potions with the children, and encouraged lots of discussions about different colours, what we could make potions for and how to use the pipettes.

The impact of this activity was that children worked on their fine motor skills, using the pipettes and tweezers. We also developed our communication skills, talking about what we were making and colours, literacy skills were focused on when we read the story and the children both asked and answered questions about it. We also used language such as “small” “bigger” “on top” and “underneath”.

Ducklings🐥

Pumpkin Decorating🎃🍂🧡

Today I have been exploring pumpkins and using the paint sticks to decorate in their own way.🎃🍂🧡

Intent🎃
We wanted to encourage our babies and toddlers to explore mark-making, develop their fine motor skills and strengthen their hand muscles by practising how to grip and hold paint sticks and crayons. We also aimed to spark curiosity, creativity and sensory exploration through a fun, seasonal activity.🎃

Implementation🍂
The children were offered paint sticks to decorate a pumpkin, allowing them to explore colour, movement and the marks they could make on a different surface. They then used crayons and paper to experiment with lines, scribbles and patterns, discovering how their movements created different marks. The ladies supported the children by modelling how to use the resources, naming colours, describing their actions and encouraging them to explore at their own pace. We followed the children’s interests, celebrated their attempts and provided a safe, stimulating environment where they could investigate freely.🍂

Impact🧡
This seasonal activity encouraged the children to explore different colours, textures and shapes while developing their fine motor skills,hand-eye coordination and creativity. Through touching, patting and exploring, the children used their senses, developed curiosity and enjoyed a wonderful hands-on learning experience. Little moments like these help our children learn, grow and build confidence through play🧡

Penguins 🐧

Ice flowers🌸✨🌺

Today in penguins we have been exploring the ice flowers that the ladies set up, the ladies freezes them and waited over night till they were solid. We got our hammers out and used our string arms to bang, tap and break the ice cubes so we could see the pretty flower in the middle!

The INTENT of this activity is so that the children could describe what they felt as in, if it felt cold or if it felt slippery and so they could talk to their friends about how it felt in their hands along with talking about the different colours flowers and petals they could see. Child RJ said ‘ ooo pink flower’ child AH replied with ‘ oh wow I have found a blue one look’ this was a good way for the children to learn new colours and talk to their friends about it. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by getting out resources to match the activity with the flowers and the petals we had real ones along with fake flowers that were all very colourful. We also had a few loose parts out like acorns, concerns and wooden rings. We used real hammers so the children can get the real ideas what hammers are like and how’d we need to be careful which the ladies talked to them about before starting.The IMPACT of this activity was for the children children to get a real sense of hammers, so out hand and eye coordination skills were developed as all the children had to be careful not too knock their fingers or other children’s, the children really liked the challenge of having to be super careful with the hammers because they were heavy and big and were saying it to one another to be gentle with it. Their learnt new textures they might of not felt before with the ice being slippy and cold in their hands and feeling wha the flowers inside the ice cube feels like after they had cracked it open! Their fine motor skills were also improved as they were touching things such as the flowers and taking the petals off and watching them fall, along with holding the hammer and making sure they hit it in the right spot to watch the ice split!🌸✨🌺

Overall all the children loved feeling the ice in their hands and looking at the different coloured flowers!
