What is a jewelry designer doing at an interior design show?

Quite a lot, actually.

Interior Design Show Vancouver has become one of my favourite places to step outside the jewelry world and look at design on a much larger scale.

LanaBetty has always had two sides. There is the storytelling side, filled with symbols, mantras, emotion and meaning. And then there is the part of me that loves hard lines, geometry, materials and figuring out how things come together.

IDS feeds that second side.

I get to see where design is going, discover materials and ideas I haven't considered, and spend a few days surrounded by people who care deeply about thoughtful design and craftsmanship.

There is something else I love about it, too.

A beautifully designed space can change the way you feel when you walk into it. I see something remarkably similar happen with jewelry. Someone tries on a piece and suddenly, it clicks. Their shoulders drop. They look at themselves differently. They have found the thing that feels like theirs.

That connection is what I am always chasing.

Over the years, IDS has also introduced me to designers, architects, buyers, industry professionals and some of my most loyal collectors. People who get excited about how something was designed, why a material was chosen and how it was made.

So, I'm back again this year.

And because I often use IDS to share a first glimpse of what's coming for fall, I'm bringing something new with me.

Midnight Rituals will be making its first appearance at IDS this weekend. Come see the new talismans in person, try them on and get an early look before the full collection release.
