ḡʷiýaxċiáxdem - time to go away (in x̄á’islak̓ala)

this series is about taking time off, taking a vacation, feeling luxurious, resting and recharging. inspired by memories of laying on sunny beaches, feeling a cool breeze on sunned and ocean watered skin, finding cool shells, floating in a pool, taking recharging baths, intentionally taking time off to rest.

i imagine these joining you in your fancy silk pajamas, lounging about and eating delicious bon bons with a bubbly drink just feeling really good.

you deserve rest 🌅

these are made using mostly 3” 20 gauge gold plated nickel free head pins, nickel free gold or surgical steel hooks, and are using many of my favourite and coveted stash of luxe shell beads!

many include grade a Peru turquoise, fresh water high grade pearl, black mother of pearl, beautiful thicc pink shell beads, pink aventurine, hematite, faceted labradorite, copper, faceted onyx, abalone.. i cannot overstate the lovely silky thick feeling of these shell beads they are on another level.

i will be bringing these on my little vacay to sunny warm Winnipeg!!

n̓alekʷa - northward

these one of a kind earrings are about travelling north on a plane and looking out the window, seeing the snowy mountains beneath you.

for me they are about my memories of flying home to my northern hometown, the mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety.

these are about heading home, maybe to your childhood home, and all the complex feelings that come along with that. we create our own worlds outside of our childhood, and revisiting can be jarring, but remembering where we come from can help us know where we’re heading.

these contain about 40 different types of beads including charlotte facet cut, czech, delica, sterling silver.

these also contain:

grade a-b turquoise stone rounds, said to be good for protection, cooling and refreshing your spirit and energy, and encourage you to speak your truth.

blue lace agate said to be good for communication, confidence and healing

freshwater pearl to remind you of the beautiful ocean and all it’s gifts

labradorite, said to help connect you to the spirit world and your Ancestors, protect against negative energy and hear your intuition.

sunstone, for joy, energy and power

preciosa czech bicone crystal for extra sparkle

cube facet moonstone for connection to femme energy, hearing your intuition, and finding balance in cycles of life.

clear glass quartz to bring in the light

gúkʷelut - members of a village *two pairs remaining on website now*

this series is meant to remind you you are not alone. we are all in this together, people care about you and you care about others. we are all unique individuals and carry our own special gifts and personalities, and we are all valuable and important.

this series is made with beautiful czech preciosa seed beads, and each pair contains blue lace agate crystals, said to be good for communication, confidence and healing.

these hang about 4.25 inches on surgical steel nickel free hooks. each pair was made with the connection between them in mind, thinking good thoughts for us all.

‘ugʷelís: land.

this series is about feeling connected to the land beneath us. it is meant to remind you of your relationship with the land, how we give and take, how we honour the land and all it does for us. reminding us of reciprocity, gratitude, and respect for the land we're on.

inspired by cool, rich, dark earth and soil, smooth rocks, white sand beaches, desert landscapes, glistening sunshine.

these are made with miyuki and charlotte cut beads, many contain 24k gold plated beads as well.

three pairs contain:
faceted grey moonstone for connection to femme energy, hearing your intuition, and finding balance in cycles of life.

faceted African turquoise said to be good for calming the mind, bringing good luck, and encouraging healing and self expression.

carnelian, said to be good for courage, creativity and finding motivation.

this series is about experiencing a long dark time, appreciating the darkness, and knowing it is coming to an end.

it is about coming through a lonely, hard, challenging and confusing time. feeling lost and afraid of what is coming. but feeling the dawn returning again, the light coming back, returning to yourself in a new and more informed way.

it is also about appreciating the night, being a night owl, indulging in the dark solo times and allowing things to be what they are.

the dark nights can be both enriching and scary, and both can be true at once. these dark times are necessary for us to go through, and they will always pass.

these are made with beautiful charlotte cut beads including 24k gold plated charlotte beads. many also contain micro faceted labradorite for connection to spirit world and for protection ❤️

im so excited to share ive been invited to be part of the Gallery Shop at WAG-Qaumajuq North of North market Sept 15+16 in Winnipeg!

i will have a small selection of beadwork, including one cosmic cliffs pair, which is similar to the pair the amazing Anna Lambe will be wearing in the show 🥹😭🥹😭🥹😭🥹!!

i am a huuugggee north of north fan and when they reached out to me for beadwork i literally cried. this is a dream come true for me and i can't wait to watch the show and attend this exciting two day event!! so many amazing artists!

ive never been to Winnipeg before pls drop your winnipeg tips below for me.

hello friends, just thought id do a new intro since it's been awhile.

ya’uc̓, lisa kelasu nugwa. geegitsog nugwa, hello my name is lisa i am in beaver clan. i am mixed indigenous (x̄á’isla/british) from kitimat currently living in metro vancouver bc cad. im a 41 yr old cis lady, my pronouns are she/her, im three years sober.

i got a bachelors degree in fine arts in 2008 from emily carr university, where i majored in photography. i spent a decade working in arts admin and hollow government anti racism efforts which sucked my soul out. it forced me back to beading in a desperate effort to heal and find my spirit again.

i learned to bead in 2009 from a woman from six nations. i returned to beading in 2019 and have been beading as my full time job ever since.

beading is truly medicine for me. i live with multiple chronic pain conditions including rheumatoid and osteo arthritis, endometriosis, pcos/pmos.. things that cause body-wide inflammation and pain constantly. beading helps me calm down, breathe, and focus on counting.

my family history includes colonial genocidal disruption due to residential school and day school. this has created a huge rift in my life as well.

through beading i am learning my language, x̄á’islak̓ala. i choose a word that represents what im working on, and repeat it in my head as im beading. i can now say many many words, and i feel so happy to feel the words be part of my mind and spirit.

i have been with my partner for about 14 years now, married for 10. we met working in the downtown east side where we both worked in harm reduction and at a community centre where i was running a drop in art program and he was doing security. he would patrol my art room a lot 😂

we have a 14 yr old black cat named prudie who we've been told is in her end of life era.. so it is a very raw and intense time in our lives.

beadwork is such a huge bright spot in my life, and allows me a space to process and share my feelings, emotions, inspirations, hopes and dreams with you. im so so grateful to be here ❤️

k̓álhi : dream in x̄á’islak̓ala. euphoria inspired collection

this collection is inspired by mainly the first season of euphoria. the colours, music, cinematography and makeup especially, the dreamy sparkly teenage dreaming sort of vibe.

these are meant to join you on your wildest adventures, your highest and lowest moments, and remind you to keep holding your dreams close. encouraging you to be bold and sparkly.

disclaimer that i am not stanning this show or necessarily telling anyone to watch it ok 😅🫠 i can see and have read about how it is problematic, and the last season was nottt it.. but i watched it all for the first time recently and felt rly inspired by the artistry in it.

most of these pairs are made with 10+ kinds of seed beads in charlotte, miyuki, sterling silver, and some contain glow in the dark toho beads too. these take many hours and lots of patience, and i hope the energy i put into them is evident.
