💍 HANDMADE vs CAD/CAST JEWELLERY 💍
Something many people don’t realise when making an insurance claim…
Not all jewellery is created the same.
At Jewlz Handmade Jewellery, many of our pieces are individually HANDMADE — shaped, assembled and finished by hand using traditional manufacturing techniques. These pieces often involve significantly more labour, craftsmanship, durability, and attention to detail than a mass-produced CAD/Cast ring.
Unfortunately, we are seeing more situations where clients who originally insured a handmade ring are being offered a CAD designed cast reproduction as a replacement through insurance claims processes.
While CAD/Cast jewellery absolutely has its place within the industry, it is not always a true like-for-like replacement for a handmade piece.
When reviewing an insurance replacement quote, it is important to ask:
✔ Is the replacement handmade or cast?
✔ Are the diamond specifications truly equivalent?
✔ Is the gold weight the same?
✔ Is the craftsmanship comparable?
✔ Am I receiving a genuine like-for-like replacement?
Consumers should also be aware of potential conflicts of interest within the insurance replacement industry, particularly where claim assessment businesses and replacement suppliers may have overlapping ownership or commercial relationships.
Jewellery is personal.
Craftsmanship matters.
And “like-for-like” should mean more than simply looking similar in a photo.
