Something a bit different from Sally this evening, which is actually quite shocking and shows just how careful you need to be when choosing your jeweller.
Recently a customer visited Sally wanting to sell an amount of different carat gold and some platinum. Sally was able to offer her customer over £4000 for the precious metals: a substantial amount of cash.
The shocking thing is this customer had been to a different gold buyer and been offered just over £2000! Now either that is someone who has no idea about the value, or is trying to scam the customer by taking a huge cut for themselves. Either way it would have left the customer seriously underpaid for the jewellery they were selling for scrap, which is quite shocking.
Perhaps it's worth sharing a few pointers from Sally if you are looking to sell old gold or platinum. Sally says:
❌ Don't accept the first offer you are made.
❌ Don't be pressured into selling, always leave the shop to compare prices.
Instead, to ensure you get a fair price Sally recommends:
✅ Do ask lots of questions
✅ Do visit a reputable jeweller
✅ Do make sure your jeweller has experience in assessing your metals
A professional, experienced jeweller will always:
✅ Give you a fair price
✅ Will not pressure you to sell
✅ Will be happy to give you a quote first.
Thank goodness, on this occasion the customer didn't take the first amount offered and did visit Sally.
Please do share this post as there are some unscrupulous gold buyers out there.
