Well, that's May almost done! And for anyone who needs a reminder May is the month of the emerald. So, to round off a month full of bank holidays, Living Crafts and weather that has gone from almost zero to 35 here are some reminders of Sally's emerald work.

It's an eclectic mix of commissions, items held in stock, and some beautiful antique repairs too.

See you all next month.

Something a bit different from Sally this evening, which is actually quite shocking and shows just how careful you need to be when choosing your jeweller.

Recently a customer visited Sally wanting to sell an amount of different carat gold and some platinum. Sally was able to offer her customer over £4000 for the precious metals: a substantial amount of cash.

The shocking thing is this customer had been to a different gold buyer and been offered just over £2000! Now either that is someone who has no idea about the value, or is trying to scam the customer by taking a huge cut for themselves. Either way it would have left the customer seriously underpaid for the jewellery they were selling for scrap, which is quite shocking.

Perhaps it's worth sharing a few pointers from Sally if you are looking to sell old gold or platinum. Sally says:
❌ Don't accept the first offer you are made.
❌ Don't be pressured into selling, always leave the shop to compare prices.

Instead, to ensure you get a fair price Sally recommends:
✅ Do ask lots of questions
✅ Do visit a reputable jeweller
✅ Do make sure your jeweller has experience in assessing your metals

A professional, experienced jeweller will always:
✅ Give you a fair price
✅ Will not pressure you to sell
✅ Will be happy to give you a quote first.

Thank goodness, on this occasion the customer didn't take the first amount offered and did visit Sally.

Please do share this post as there are some unscrupulous gold buyers out there.

After the advertising post last week, here's the follow-up. Sally and Emma goodwin creations had a busy time last weekend. Lots of people participated in workshops, making these lovely pendants.

I am always intrigued that such non-delicate tool produce such delicate items!

Many thanks to those of you who attended and sought out Sally and Emma's stand. Hopefully this weekend is a bit less frenetic for them 😁.

Don't worry if you missed the Living Crafts event, you can always drop by File and Forge in Sawbridgeworth to see more fabulous jewellery. Or visit the File and Forge website to learn more about classes and to sign up too.

Sally and Emma have been busy setting up the stand today.

The show opens at 10am tomorrow! A few behind the scenes pics of the set-up all ready for lots of sparkle to arrive in the morning.

For anyone who hasn't done a show they are a huge amount of work before the event even starts, especially if you are running a workshops alongside a retail section too. Just remembering everything you will need is a spreadsheet nightmare 😱. Though I am sure Sally and Emma have it all under control 😁🧘‍♀️

Hopefully some of you will be able to visit Living Crafts at the beautiful and historic Hatfield House from Thurs through to Sunday.

One final post as we zoom towards May and the huge Living Crafts festival starting on 7th May! Sally will be there with her business partner, Emma, on the File & Forge stand.

Anyway, back to now. This is one of my favourite ultimate upcycles by Sally. Here she has taken a bar brooch, set with diamonds and a ruby and converted it into a ring.

I know this sounds super easy, but my guess is that it is far more complicated than it sounds! After all how do you make sure the settings stay in place and things don't go wonky?! 🤔 (Note my very non-jeweller view of things 🤣.)

Putting my lack of technical jargon to one-side, the diamonds and ruby have rub-over settings in white gold, set into yellow 18ct gold. A lovely piece!

More soon with details on Living Crafts and where to find Sally.

A sad bunny of the month tonight 😞 as lovely little Ollie has died. Ollie was a sweet boy who loved a bundle of parsley, and his bunny friend Tim.

Sally has been nursing Ollie on and off over the past few weeks, tempting him to eat and all sorts, but sadly to no avail.

Ollie had a lovely life, after being rescued from behind a shed 😱. He was definitely found by the right people.

The pics show Ollie having a nice time in the bunny castle, munching parsley and generally being a handsome chap. RIP Ollie, you will be missed.

I realise I am once more creating havoc by not sharing "bunny of the month" today! 😱 But in my defence I felt it was important to remind everyone of an upcoming event Sally and her business partner Emma will be are participating in as File & Forge

It's now less than a month until Living Crafts at Hatfield House. This large event takes place over four days, from 7th to 10th May. Plus it's not your usual craft fayre as not only can you watch demonstrations, you can also sign up for taster classes too.

Sally and Emma will be running 2 different workshops, one for a pendant and the other for a textured ring. You can sign-up for either or both of these at livingcrafts.co.uk (The workshops full up fast so don't leave it too late!)

It's also a chance to view and buy some fabulous pieces of jewellery too.

I hope many of you will be able to make it to Hatfield House.
