🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Roads Crime Unit launch joint operation with DVSA

Officers from the Roads Crime Unit (RCU) recently carried out the second of three enforcement days, targeting Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) drivers around Flintshire and Deeside.

Operation Cargo is a multi agency effort working in conjunction with the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), checking the roadworthiness of delivery vehicles, and their drivers.

The stop checks performed by RCU and DVSA highlighted numerous vehicle defects and driving offences, including:

• Driving with no bonnet

• Driving with no grill

• Not wearing a seatbelt

• Use of a fraudulent Driving Licence

• 2 x Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence

• 1 x Cloned vehicle

• 6 x Vehicle Registration Mark offences

• 10 x Overladen vehicles

• 2 x Insecure load

• 2 x Driving whilst using a phone

• 3 x no MOT

• 5 x Driving with no insurance

• 2 x Cord exposed on a tyre

• 4 x Lamps not maintained

• 13 x insufficient tread on a tyre

• 1 x Leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position

• 1 x Incorrect registration displayed

• 4 x Driving with insufficient rest

• 1 x Failure to record drivers' hours

The driver of the red HGV pictured had an expired HGV category on his licence, no valid Certificate of Professional Competence and no insurance.

In total, eight drivers were given an order prohibiting the vehicle from moving due to defects that are seen to be unsafe, and several others were seized for driving with no insurance.

Sgt Emma Birrell of the Roads Crime Unit said: “The sheer amount of offences detected in such a short period highlights the enormity of the issues we deal with day in and out, in order to maintain road safety in our communities.

“These offences are not trivial, and they pose a real risk to public safety – drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike. I would urge delivery drivers to check the roadworthiness of their vehicle before every shift.

“A third day of enforcement is planned, however I cannot rule out ongoing targeting of large and heavy goods vehicles based on the evidence we have seen thus far.

“Public safety is and will remain the primary concern of the Roads Crime Unit.”

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Gwnaeth swyddogion o Uned Troseddau Ffyrdd (RCU) gynnal yr ail ddiwrnod allan o dri diwrnod gorfodi yn ddiweddar, gan dargedu gyrrwr cerbydau nwyddau mawr (LGV) o amgylch Sir y Fflint a Glannau Dyfrdwy.

Mae Ymgyrch Cargo yn ymdrech sawl asiantaeth sy'n gweithio mewn cysylltiad â'r Asiantaeth Safonau Cerbydau Gyrrwr (DVSA), gan archwilio i ba mor addas yw cerbydau i'w gyrru ar y ffordd, a'u gyrwyr.

Mae'r gwiriadau stopio ac ymchwilio a berfformiwyd gan yr RCU a'r DVSA wedi tynnu sylw at nifer o namau ar geir a throseddau gyrru, gan gynnwys:

• Gyrru heb fonet car

• Gyrru heb rwyll flaen

• Ddim yn gwisgo gwregys diogelwch

• Defnyddio Trwydded Ffug

• 2 achos o yrru yn groes i amodau eu trwydded

• 1 achos o gerbyd wedi'i glonio

• 6 achos o droseddau Marc Cofrestru Cerbyd

• 10 achos o gerbydau dros eu pwysau

• 2 achos o lwyth heb ei sicrhau yn gywir

• 2 achos o yrru wrth ddefnyddio ffon

• 3 achos o yrru heb MOT

• 5 achos o yrru heb yswiriant

• 2 achos o deiars wedi gwisgo

• 4 achos o oleuadau ddim yn gweithio

• 13 achos o deiars moel

• 1 achos o adael cerbyd mewn sefyllfa beryglus.

• 1 achos o gamgymeriad wrth arddangos cofrestriad y cerbyd

• 4 achos o yrru heb gael digon o seibiant

• 1 achos o fethu a chadw cofnod cywir o'r oriau a yrrwyd

Roedd gan y gyrrwr o'r HGV coch sydd yn y llun yn gyrru er bod ei drwydded gyrru categori HGV wedi dod i ben, dim Tystysgrif Cymeradwyedd Proffesiynol dilys a dim yswiriant.

I gyd rhoddwyd gorchymyn i wyth gyrrwr sy'n atal y cerbyd rhag symud oherwydd diffygion sydd wedi'u hystyried yn anniogel, ac fe gafodd nifer o gerbydau eraill eu cadw am yrru heb yswiriant.

Dywedodd Rhingyll Emma Birrell o'r Uned Troseddau'r Ffyrdd: Mae'r nifer fawr o droseddau a ddarganfuwyd mewn cyfnod mor fyr yn amlygu maint y problemau yr ydym yn ymdrin â nhw bob dydd i gynnal diogelwch ffyrdd yn ein cymunedau.

Nid yw’r troseddau hyn yn ddibwys, ac maent yn cyflwyno perygl go iawn i ddiogelwch y cyhoedd – sef gyrrwr, beiciwr a cherddwyr fel ei gilydd. Buaswn yn annog gyrrwyr cludo i wirio a yw eu cerbyd yn ddiogel i'w ddefnyddio cyn pob shifft.

Mae'r trydydd dydd o orfodi wedi ei drefnu, fodd bynnag ni allaf ddweud na fydd yna dargedu parhaus o gerbydau nwyddau mawr a thrwm yn digwydd, yn seiliedig ar y dystiolaeth yr ydym wedi'i gweld hyd yma.

“Diogelwch cyhoeddus yw, a fydd, prif flaenoriaeth yr Uned Troseddau Ffyrdd.”

Last night, a grey Audi A5 was identified by our officers as being driven in the HGC Arfordir Gorllewin Conwy / NWP West Conwy Coastal area without insurance, MOT or tax. The vehicle was located in the Conwy area and immediately made off at speed upon seeing the police vehicle.

With help from members of the public, they managed to point our officers in the right direction and we located the vehicle and its driver who were in the process of trying to evade us.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, driving whilst unfit through drink, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without insurance/MOT and remains in police custody 🔐🚔

We thank the members of the public who assisted us and we always ask that you report incidents to us. We will not tolerate dangerous driving or impaired driving on our roads and will continue to target those who continue to do so.

Watch the moment a police officer brought a dangerous pursuit to an end after a 19-year-old motorcyclist with a passenger on board failed to stop.

The rider was arrested shortly after the National Police Air Service (NPAS) found him hiding in undergrowth in Acton Park after he fled the scene.

Alfie Hughes, of Deva Way, Wrexham drove at speed along pavements during the pursuit in Wrexham on 18 July, without any regard for the safety of others.

The officer was in the area following a series of incidents relating to motorcycles being ridden antisocially in the area.

As Hughes rode into Borras Park Road from Dean Road, the specially trained police driver mounted a pavement and blocked his path to protect other pedestrians, knocking Hughes and the passenger off the bike.

Hughes admitted charges of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop for police, and driving while uninsured and unlicenced.

At Mold Magistrates Court on 11 May, he was disqualified from driving for 6 months and fined almost £300.

Sergeant Danny Rees of the Roads Crime Unit said: “Thankfully, no members of the public were injured during this incident, however Hughes clearly showed a complete disregard for the safety of others by driving carelessly as he attempted to escape police.

“Antisocial riding will not be tolerated in our communities, and we are asking members of the public to continue supporting us to tackle this issue by providing information to us about bikes in their area.

“We will use all the tools and resources at our disposal to ensure it is stopped before anybody is hurt, or worse, killed.”

Maes parcio Nova Gorllewin.

Mae rhwystrau canol ar Nova Gorllewin wedi cau oherwydd ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol diweddar.

Mae'r ymddygiad yma wedi cynnwys rasio o fewn y maes parcio a gyrru peryglus arall, sydd hefyd wedi achosi aflonyddwch i eiddo cyfagos.

Rydym yn gweithio gyda Heddlu Gogledd Cymru i roi mesurau ar waith ac unwaith y bydd y rhain wedi'u gweithredu bydd y maes parcio yn parhau ar agor yn llawn.

Yn y cyfamser, bydd rhan fach o'r maes parcio ar gael, a byddwn yn cysylltu â threfnwyr Parkrun i sicrhau nad yw'r cau dros dro yn cael unrhyw effaith ar eu cyfarfodydd bore Sadwrn.

Nova West car park.

Middle barriers on Nova West have been closed due to recent anti-social behaviour.

This behaviour has included drag racing within the car park and other dangerous driving, which has also caused a disturbance to neighbouring properties.

We are working with North Wales Police to put measures in place and once these have been implemented the car park will remain open in full.

In the meantime, a small section of the car park will be available, and we will be contacting the organisers of Parkrun to ensure the temporary closure has no impact on their Saturday morning meets.
