Week 8 of living in DC. I had a solo week as Simon was away with work this week. I thought it might feel a bit weird being in a newish place on my own but it’s all starting to feel very familiar and kind of like we have always been here! The week has flown by again and I’m trying to make sure I take all the little things in and notice the new. Thank you for another week of having us DC!

Can’t believe it’s week 7! Some things feel like second nature now and like we’ve always been here and then something pops up to remind me I’m somewhere new. I like the little daily challenges that make your brain wake up and take notice. It’s so much easier to be present when you are somewhere different and trying to work out the lay of the land….and fathom what pub cheese is?! 😂

Week 6 in DC! I thought we hadn’t done much as it’s rained a couple of evenings but when I look back on the week it’s been quite full! I’ve had a couple of moments when I’ve remembered where I am and had to pinch myself. From being in the thick of the July 4th shenanigans to eating at Ben's Chili Bowl and reading about the historical significance of a seemingly normal fast food joint. Whilst it’s been a week to learn more about the history of the country, this afternoon is very much about remembering our roots and cheering England on ⚽️ (I don’t even like football but…) …is it coming home?! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

July 4th marked America’s 250th Birthday. As a guest in the country it appears the celebrations have taken on a different feel this year, especially in DC. The city has been preparing for the event for many weeks. Lots of people are visiting for the weekend from far and wide and the extreme weather meant some events were cancelled and others postponed. It was a bit chaotic, but people persevered with the adverse conditions for the celebrations. Happy Independence Day to all who celebrate. May your next 250 be good to each and every one of you who call America home 🇺🇸 🏠 🎆

Week 5!
The days are speeding up now. We are still discovering the new and learning something about this city, and country, most days. The whole week has been gearing up for July 4th in the city. From what I can gather it’s a very different feel this year.

So enjoying walking down an unseen street and it opening up a whole other world with a new museum or building, reference to a person I knew nothing about or just a thread of something asking to be pulled to learn more. As they say, a change is as good as a rest, but there is no time for resting here as there is too much to see, learn and do!

Week 4 of living in DC! Simon started work this week so trying to establish a bit of a routine. It’s a great city to explore solo as there are so many amazing museums and it’s pretty walkable…minus the heat!
Our flat…apartment…is starting to feel like home too.
I celebrated my birthday this week so starting a new revolution round the sun in the city feels poetic. So many changes in the past few weeks but I feel so incredibly lucky for this opportunity. Thanks for having us for another week DC!

Happy Pride from DC! Yesterday saw the city’s big Pride Parade…and wow was the city proud.
Every community group, embassy, restaurant, church and grocery store seemed to have a float. Colour, creativity and love everywhere. People supporting and celebrating one another with loud clear voices.

It was a real privilege to be a part of it. We went to our first block party too! 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🖤🩶🤍🤎
