Paul Mrkusic and his father scour the planet to bring you unconventional rarities, a selection of which can be viewed at their Bryanston Organic Market stall, and also at the monthly Nelson Mandela Square Antique Market on the first Sunday of each month. In addition to these, BANCROFT ANTIQUES is a regular highlight at the much anticipated and highly prestigious annual SAADA Antique, Art & Design Fairs in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Large Handmade Cilea Bijoux Paris “Elise” Brooch

The brooch is large and was handcrafted by Cilea Bijoux in France from emaline, an enamelled resin. It features a multi-petalled orange flower with gold centre called Elise. A brooch pin is affixed to a panel on the reverse. The panel is marked “Cilea Paris”.

Maison Cilea was established in 1992 in Paris France, when Stephane Ravel, previously an accountant, encountered the artist Monique Vedie and was inspired by the possibilities that the resin from Talosel, a cellulose acetate, offered in the innovative production of costume jewellery. He named the venture after his wife, and today their two daughters Ameline and Ambre continue the Cilea Bijoux adventure in creating fresh, flowery and fun treasures.

Vintage Finnish Sterling Silver Kalevala Koru “Teuva” Pendant Necklace

The sterling silver necklace is a “Teuva” pendant – also known as Teuvan riipus – a well-known design by the Finnish jewellery company Kalevala Koru, forming part of the “Originals” collection, inspired by an archaeological find, a bronze original from the 11th century discovered in Teuva, Finland. It features a decorative open-work pendant hung with three tassels, suspended from a long chain necklace. The stamps include “MADE IN FINLAND” and “925”.
