"The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.” Exodus 20:21

Like the nation of Israel, we are each called to the mountain of God, but few are willing to pass through the darkness to get there. God wanted to reveal His glory to the children of Israel, but they were afraid to enter into His presence. They only wanted to know about God, rather than know him personally like Moses did. This grieved the heart of God.

Why wouldn’t the people of Israel risk entering the darkness if it meant being in the presence of God? What did the people fear?
Perhaps they had fears like each of us. The fear of the unknown. The fear of what might happen. The fear that God might not like what He sees. Or, perhaps even the greatest fear: the fear of darkness itself and what lies behind that darkness.

Many of us have been satisfied to hear about God from God’s messengers. But there is a greater calling for each of you – a calling to enter into His presence. Sometimes entering into His presence means we enter through an unexpected door – a door that appears to have nothing good behind it.

We do not need to fear entering the presence of God even if it means entering through a period of darkness. Above all else we must believe that God is a God of love. If He calls us into darkness in order to enter His presence, then that darkness will become an entry to new levels of relationship with a God who longs for fellowship with you and me.

Healed for Ministry

“And after the whole nation had been circumcised, they remained where they were in camp until they were healed.” – Joshua 5:8

Before the nation of Israel could go into the Promised Land they had to be circumcised. Circumcision is painful, bloody, and personal. God requires each of us to be circumcised in heart before we are allowed to enter and receive the blessings that await each believer in the Promised Land.

This circumcision can often be very painful. Circumcision requires losing our old way of life. The process of spiritual circumcision may mean a loss in areas that have been a part of our lives in order to draw us to the Savior. God understands this. Consequently, like the people of Israel, we must wait until we are healed before we begin to be effective in our calling. If we launch out too early, we will be ineffective and may risk infection and disease and will not be at our full capacity. God wants each of us to walk in His healing grace.

Have you had someone who had not healed of their wounds lead you, make strategic decisions or tried to heal you? Their decisions and words are formed based on pain. That can never be good for any ministry or workplace.

I recently encouraged a friend to take time out between jobs as she was to enter a very strategic position with huge amounts of Influence. She could not bring into the new her anger and hurt of her past environment.

The people of Israel fought only two battles when they were coming out of Egypt. In the Promised Land they fought 39 battles. Each of us must be prepared to enjoy the benefits of living in the Promised Land. However, we must also be prepared to wage war against the enemy of our souls. Make sure the Lord has provided the needed healing to your circumcision experience before you enter the Promised Land.

Lilonke, let's heal bantase❤️

Uncharted Territories

“Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance, which lives by itself in a forest, in fertile pasturelands” (Mic 7:14).

“I’ve called you to pastor the market place” said the Lord to my friend. “Pastor the market place? How does one pastor corporate organisations, Lord?” “The things I taught you I want you to teach others,” came the reply.

There is a people who live isolated in fertile pasturelands. They long for a shepherd who will help them discover their own inheritance. They are the lost majority in the marketplace who are living lives as though they are a child lost and aimless in a deep, dark forest.

Though most do not know it, they long for a pastor who will reveal to them their destinies. Your team and colleagues which represent your vocation, is the means by which God is going to use you to pastor those in your sphere of influence in the workplace.

A fertile pastureland means there is a great harvest that can come if only there is someone to do what is necessary to bring a harvest from it. This is where you will derive your inheritance. The people you serve will be the spiritual inheritance God has allotted to you.

This forest is more fertile than all other potential fields because the power and authority represented by this forest has the potential to impact far greater fields. This forest has CEOs, presidents of nations, entertainment moguls, media tycoons, and educators to name just a few. They are the shapers of society who have yet to meet their Maker.

Are you willing to use your staff to be a shepherd to those in the fertile pasturelands?

WHEN GOD TARRIES

“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3

God has a storehouse of blessings that He has reserved for you and me. However, our timing to receive those blessings may not be the same as our Lord’s. God has a specific timetable that He requires to accomplish His purposes in the life of the believer. Sometimes that timetable seems excruciatingly cruel and painful, yet it is needful.

When we read that Joseph remained a slave in Egypt and was then placed in prison after being wrongfully accused, it would be easy to second-guess the God of the universe. Oh, how cruel and uncaring, we might think. Joseph thought he was going to be delivered from prison when he interpreted a dream for a court official, but then he was forgotten another two years. Why? An early release would have disrupted God’s perfect plan.

God takes time to develop character before anything else. God could not afford to have a prideful 30-year-old managing the resources of an entire region of the world.

We can sometimes delay this timetable if we refuse His correction.

Although it is sometimes difficult to understand, the Lord is just and gracious in His dealings with His children. When He does decide to move on our behalf, we will appreciate the delay and will often understand the reason it was needed.

“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him!” (Is. 30:18)

If you are awaiting the fulfillment of a vision in your life, ask the Lord for His grace to sustain you. It will be worth the wait.

God's Recruitment Strategy

“Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing.” Acts 9:8a

When God calls one of His servants into service, there is often much travail. There are many examples where God makes His presence known through circumstances that tax the individual to his very soul.

Consider Paul, who was stricken blind on the Damascus road.

Consider Peter; when he denied Jesus after the crucifixion, he was in total despair.

Consider Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were thrown into the fiery furnace.

Consider Daniel, who was thrown into the lions’ den.

Consider David, who was forced to flee his former employer for many years and lived as a fugitive.

It may seem strange to us that God uses such incredible adversity to prepare His servants for greater service, but this is God’s way. God knows that the human heart is incapable of voluntarily stepping into situations that take us beyond our comfort zone. He intentionally brings us into hard places to prove us and to drive us deeper into the soil of His grace.

In arid regions of the world, trees cannot survive unless their roots grow deeper to where the water table can be found. Once they reach the water, these trees become stronger than any tree that can be found in tropical climates. Their root systems ensure that they can withstand any storm. In the same way, God brings us into extremely difficult situations in order to prove His power and drive our spiritual roots deeper.

Friend, God may take you through times when you will question His love for you. In such times, you must cling to His coattail so that you see His purposes in it. Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised. For in just a very little while, ‘He who is coming will come and will not delay. But My righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him'” (Hebrews 10:36-38).

You're in the way of your success!!

“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life” (John 12:24-26).

God is all about your death so that HIS success can be realized through you! This is why the Church is having such little impact – there are too many believers who have not yet died to their old nature so that Christ can live fully through them. When believers come to the end of themselves they will lose their lives to Him and live through the power of the Holy Spirit and begin to see the reality of a living gospel that impacts lives, workplaces, cities and nations.

“Much of modern Christian enterprise is ‘Ishmael.’ Born not of God, but of an inordinate desire to do God’s will in our own way – the one thing our Lord never did,” said Oswald Chambers. The psalmist describes what it means to live in our own strength:

“Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for he grants sleep to those he loves” (Ps 127:1-2).

How does one die so that Christ can be our all and all? It usually takes a crisis of significant proportions for most people to relinquish the control of their lives. It means we come to the end of ourselves and our striving to control the events in our lives and we finally come to the place where we can say, “Lord, I surrender. Please take full control of my life.”

Have you come to this place with God in your life? Let go and let God make you a success His way.

Pulpit in the Garden

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” – Proverbs 17:17

“I am in there again,” I told my friend. “The pit.” A time when no one can cheer you up and you wonder if there ever was or is a God. Have you ever had such times? Discouragement and depression can be devastating even to the best of saints. It can bring us so low. The writer of Proverbs phrased it well when he said, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Prov. 13:12). When we get so low that we despair of our belief, we can identify with the prophet Elijah who wanted to die after being so discouraged with life. Depression is so real and yes, even Pastors are prone.

“I’m coming over,” my bestie said.

“Haaai chom - I was just sharing, you don’t have to do that,” I said.

“I’m coming over. We’re going to pray.” Coz ke unenkani mos uGirl.

About 10 minutes later my friend walked in the door. We sat in outside in the garden without saying a word, then my bestie began to pray. I didn’t feel like praying. I was too deep in the pit. All I could do was listen. After a while she was quiet. We both sat quietly for ten to fifteen minutes, praying quietly to ourselves. Suddenly she said, “First Thessalonians 5:24!”

“What verse is that?” I asked.

“I don’t know - you're the pastor kaloku,” she said. “That is the verse He spoke to me.”

I grabbed my Bible and looked up the verse. “The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.”

We laughed. Can He be so personal? Can He care that much? That night I grew more in my love of my two friends - God and the bestie, not to mention being brought out of the pit.

Do you have a friend who is there when you need somebody at any hour of the day? Are you there for your friend? Ask the Lord how you can be a better friend to someone today.

Authority to Manifest

“Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water” (Num 20:7-8).

The Bible says that Moses had a unique walk with God. God said Moses was the most humble man on earth and He spoke with him face to face (Num 12:3 and Exodus 3:11).

When Moses met God at the burning bush God said, “Moses, I’m going to perform miracles through your staff.” And He did. He turned his staff into a snake. He brought plagues upon the nation and even parted the Red Sea with his staff. He even struck the rock with his staff to bring forth water.

But later, God called Moses to operate on a new level. Instead of using his workplace tool (his staff) to perform miracles, God
was calling Moses to manifest the miracle through his words. “Speak to the rock Moses!” But Moses, frustrated by the stubborn people, struck the rock instead out of anger. Amazingly and in spite of his disobedience, God still allowed Moses to get water out of the rock. God will often work through your anointing, even when you do it in your flesh, just for the sake of others. But beware my friend, it will be at a great cost. Like Moses, you will not enter your promised land and may lose your inheritance.

God is calling us to manifest breakthroughs by operating at times as God did–by speaking to the problem. Be available to the
Holy Spirit at times when God calls you to use your authority in your calling to manifest His power in a situation that needs a
breakthrough.

Friend, God is calling you to manifest His Kingdom through a higher level of relationship with Him. Are you willing?

“…but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.” -Romans 2:10-11

Sometimes, rather unintentionally, we as the body of Christ can develop a “superstar” mentality. What I mean by this is that we have had a revelation of our identity in God, but it becomes a little warped. We think we are the best thing that’s happened since sliced bread, and we are the ones who are called to “save the earth”. We develop circles around who is the coolest Christian and who is the savest of the saved . Others who are not directly in our circle may feel as though we are better than them when they are around us. We may feel that we have something extra special to contribute to the body of Christ because of our gifts or talents.

But you do know what? God doesn’t think this way. He loves each and every one of us the same.

God doesn’t care whether you’re Brittany Spears or Mother Theresa, if you have tattoos, scars, a person who has heard God 1000 times or someone who would say they’ve never heard God personally – He loves each of us without measure.

The change in the equation happens when we choose to seek more after God, and we inherit more of His promises over our lives, due to our obedience and revelation of His word.

But, this choice on our behalf does not mean we ought to think more highly of ourselves. In contrast, becoming more like Christ is about dying to self, although it is the most fulfilling thing in the world to be used by Him. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” -Gal 2:20

When we develop hierarchy of fellowship (not leadership) we can step into dangerous waters. Anything that tries to separate us or others from the love of God is not of Him.

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” -Galatians 3:28

Let us all walk in humility as we seek to draw others toward a fulfilling, lasting relationship and destiny in Jesus.

Sideways versus Upwards

Glancing this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. – Exodus 2:12

Moses saw the pain of his people. He saw the bo***ge and the injustice. His heart was enraged, and he decided he would do something. He would take matters into his own hands. The result was murder. The motive was right, but the action was wrong. He went sideways instead of upwards to God. Moses fled to the desert, where God prepared the man who would ultimately be the deliverer of a nation. But it took 40 years of preparation before God determined Moses was ready. He was a professional businessman – a sheepherder. It was during the mundane activity of work that God called on him to be a deliverer.

Moses was like a lot of enthusiastic Christian workplace believers who seek to solve a spiritual problem with a fleshly answer. The greatest danger to the Christian workplace believer is his greatest strength – his business acumen and expertise to get things done. This self-reliance can become our greatest weakness when it comes to moving in the spiritual realm. We’re taught to be problem solvers. But, like Moses, if our enthusiasm and passion are not harnessed by the power of the Holy Spirit, we will fail miserably. Peter had to learn this lesson too. His enthusiasm got him into a lot of trouble. But God was patient, just as He is patient with each of us. Sometimes He must put us in the desert for a time in order to season us so that Christ is allowed to reign supreme in the process.

Before you act, pray and seek the mind of Christ until you know it is God behind the action. Check it out with others. You may save yourself a trip to the desert.

Rest please, Rest!

"You will guard him {and} keep him in perfect {and} constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, {and} hopes confidently in You." Isaiah 26:3

The young folk have a phrase they use lately. In my house I'm often told "rest please". This is said when I am really stressing about stuff or I'm in their business which has nothing to do with me.

The reason we stress so much is because we focus so much on things around us (including being in people's businesses) that we forget our main assignment of keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. We cause ourselves anxiety over situations that have absolutely nothing to do with us. This leads us to saying things that will hurt others, seeing things that will distract our own kingdom walk and doing things that are not in line with God's purpose for us.

When you are focused on God through prayer, you are able to discern spirits, speak good counsel and be of service to those around you. This is purely because you as you keep God's assignment, you function under the unction (anointing) of the Holy Spirit and you will recieve His gifts. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

So as we are close to wrapping the week, when you get tempted to be drawn into situations that have nothing to do with you and only bring you anxiety and stress, remember to just rest Child!
