When someone passes away, I think it’s important to still look for signs they’re around.

Not in a big way, just little things.

For me, it’s robins.

Every time I go for a run, I see one. And I don’t really know why… but I just feel like it’s her.

My mum loved running. And now it’s weirdly become the thing that makes me feel closest to her.

When I went to collect my marathon bib, her favourite song - the one we played at her funeral came on.

She never got to run the London Marathon… but I know she would have loved to.

So this weekend, I’m running for those who can’t🤍

If I had to start over today, these are the 5 expensive, embarrassing, and exhausting mistakes I would never make again:

1. Skipping the boring admin.
Get your bloody trademark. And the .com. It sounds obvious, but you’d be amazed how many people skip this (including myself). I spent years trying to undo this critical and expensive mistake.

2. Letting the “cringe” stop you.
The embarrassment is real. It took me 6 hours the first time I filmed a 30-second video. Your first product shoot, your first reel, your first pitch - it will feel cringe. That’s not a sign to stop; it’s a sign you’re still early. Everyone who looks polished now once looked exactly like you do.

3. Quitting during the silent grind.
It’s a slow slog when no one is watching. I remember emailing 50 journalists to cover my story and not one person replied. There is no overnight success. It feels like you are working towards something for years in the dark before you see a single crack of light. Momentum isn’t a feeling; it’s the decision to keep going when the bank account is empty and the recognition is zero.

4. Falling for the agency trap.
Do it yourself first. Don’t use agencies if you can do it yourself, and definitely don’t hand off tasks to anyone if you don’t have a basic understanding of how they work. Learn everything from start to finish so no one can ever undermine you. You have to know the machine to run the machine.

5. Taking it all too seriously.
Have a bit of fun. (I’m still working on this one). Yes, it’s hard. Yes, there is pressure. But you chose this madness. If you aren’t finding moments to actually enjoy the chaos, what is the point of building it?

It’s possible, even from zero📈

The Founder Survival Guide: Episode 1

What I wish someone had told me before my first factory visit.
Five years ago, my first trip to China terrified me. I literally paid £500 for a car from the airport because I was just so nervous to let a supplier pick me up.

Our last trip we visited 8 factories in 4 days.

I’ve probably been to around 30 factories in the last 5 years, and when you first walk into one, you genuinely don’t know what’s good and what’s not. You don’t know what you don’t know…

But here’s what I do know now: your manufacturer should be like a business partner. It’s not one-sided. You’re putting your business reputation in their hands - so you need to be able to trust them.

Swipe through for the exact framework I use to decide if a manufacturer is actually the right fit.

And if you’re feeling a bit scared about taking that next step - just know that I felt exactly like that too. I didn’t know any of this a few years ago. I learnt a lot along the very bumpy way.

The only way to overcome fear is through action. Sending that email, getting on that plane - it will truly feel scary. But honestly, it will change the game!

Any questions about international sourcing, drop them below and I’ll try and help as many of you as possible 👇
