Some of the simplest-looking rings are the most difficult to make.

This titanium Damascus ring has an ultra-thin wall of only 1.2 mm. But its dimensions were not the only challenge.

Titanium Damascus is etched in acid to reveal its layered pattern. For this design, the customer wanted that texture on the outside—but a completely smooth finish inside.

To achieve this, Awie had to reverse the usual process: finishing and acid-etching the exterior before carefully machining the inside to its final size. It was an unconventional, high-risk way to make a ring, with almost no room for error.

The result is quietly understated. The work behind it was anything but.

It looks very different by the end. 🔥

This ring started as a naturally coloured zirconium core and a Zircuti sleeve, machined to fit together with extremely tight tolerances.

Before the shaping, polishing and colour, there’s a stage we rather love — that almost seamless fit between the two materials. It’s the kind of detail that disappears into the finished ring, but it matters enormously in getting there.

Then the transformation begins.

The ring is shaped and polished.
Our Bezalel mark is engraved inside.
And finally, heat brings the materials to life.

The zirconium darkens and the layers of the Zircuti reveal their incredible colours and pattern — a combination that can never be repeated in exactly the same way.

Three rings. Three different customers. One shared request: a touch of green.

Each ring tells its own story, with different textures, materials and details—but all three arrived on our workbench at almost the same time.

This one feels especially personal. 🖤

Jewellex Africa is not simply another exhibition on our calendar. It is where Bezalel Atelier began.

Three years ago, Awie and I arrived at our very first Jewellex with a new name, a new brand and plenty of nervous excitement. That was where we officially introduced Bezalel Atelier to the jewellery industry—and where this chapter of our story truly started.

This September will be our fourth Jewellex Africa as exhibitors and, in a very special way, Bezalel’s third birthday.

So much has changed since that first exhibition. We have grown, explored new materials, developed new skills and created rings that carry the stories of so many different people. But the heart of Bezalel remains the same: thoughtful craftsmanship, meaningful design and the belief that every ring should be personal.

Thank you to Jewellex Africa for featuring us today, and for giving Bezalel a place to take its very first steps. We have a very special connection with this event, and we cannot wait to return.

We’re excited to welcome Bezalel Atelier to Jewellex Africa 2026!

Bezalel Atelier is a South African design studio specialising in handcrafted men’s wedding rings that are as meaningful as the commitment they represent. Founded by husband-and-wife team Awie and Martie, Bezalel was born from a shared love for craftsmanship, storytelling and creating pieces that last a lifetime.

Each ring is made to order, crafted with intention using materials as unique as the wearer. From titanium, zirconium and Damascus steel to African Blackwood, kudu horn, carbon fibre and precious metals, Bezalel combines modern techniques with artisanal care to create rings that are rugged, elegant and deeply personal.
