4 years ago (yesterday) this was my realized dream. My own art studio which featured my jewelry, but included vintage fashion. Everything was set for First Friday, my first public opening in my new space.
It was going to be beautiful! The paint was in cans, just waiting in the storage space (had run out of time to do prior to FF). I had plenty of space for my "boards" (designs that I was working on, but not yet strung - visitors could see my upcoming jewelry, make suggestions, or make requests). These images captured my studio space, virtually unlit, January 6, 2022, 8:05 pm.
I had worked late to get everything set just right. All I had to do was come in the next night and price the rack of vintage fashion before opening. I locked my studio, started for the stairs, then had to return for my trash. I opened the door and fell in love all over again. It was so perfect!
I stopped to take it all in, proud in the moment. I took these studio pictures to send to my Mom, collected my trash, then locked Studio 319. Down the stairs, locking the Masonic Temple doors behind me, everything was right in the world. I cleared the snow off my vehicle and left.
The building was declared a total loss just over an hour later because a man made a terrible mistake. So many dreams changed that night.
I all but stopped making jewelry. I reopened a gallery (thank you Bob!) for artists that were ready to restart, but my heart wasn't in it. I recognize that now.
I made a few designs, but the rest were really uninspired. Then I found other media returning. I began to sketch, then paint again, as did sculpting with wire. I formed a wonderful bond with Dale Hague (thank you!), and dreams and "what ifs" began to grow. I moved to a beautiful building (thank you Sally!), finding a space in which to reflect and heal.
Returning to my current location downtown found Dale and I collaborating on more projects and shows. Dave (thank you for everything) joined with a friend (choosing to remain anonymous) to feature their reclaimed wood projects. Several others are joining us. I feel surrounded with support. ♡
It was AnneMarie who suggested that I consider stainless steel findings in my jewelry. I thought about it for months, then followed that concept. I fell in love with the look after one design. A whole collection has appeared. I have returned to inspired jewelry design after a 4 year hiatus.
My current studio is in disarray as I undergo a complete reset. Bold colors to follow, with a fun theme for 2026. I don't know if it will be completed by the February First Friday ArtWalk, but you will at least recognize the concept.
Thank you to everyone who supported me through the past 4 years. Dave, Sylvia, Dale, Bob and Tammy, Sally, Calli, AnneMarie Kovach, and so many others have kept me guided along my path. Thank you to each of you who chose to buy my art - you've supported my dreams.
Stay tuned to 2026. Great changes are coming!
