Home School Day at The National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia, PA. Helping youngsters learn the intricacies of being a watchmaker. I volunteered for “Home School Day” from 2010-2020 then took a break during COVID. This is the first year it returned and I couldn’t be more excited to reintroduce it. I volunteered with my buddy Lee Davis who tackled “stenciling” for reverse painting on clock glass. This is one of my favorite events as the kids typically listen better than teaching adults, and it’s a good reminder that we may just make it as a society with seeing how bright some of these kids are.

Holy nostalgia! I had the honor teaching today at “The Bowman Building” in Lancaster PA. My father graduated from their watchmaking department in 1979 where he spent three years studying watchmaking, clockmaking and jewelry repair. We took a picture by the window he spent so many years at. A lot of alumni came by to check it out. This was the first time a horological class has been taught there since the school closed down. The school lasted 115 years from 1877 to 1992. I assisted and his class with . I even got to go up into the observatory to end the day! It was a great weekend with “Lancaster Watch Week”, and I was glad to play a small part in it.

ZWR hosted a dinner last night to celebrate one of our past employees receiving the AWCI Fellow Award. The highest honor given to watchmakers in the US to honor one’s life’s work to horology. It was an honor to present Bernhard Stoeber with this award. It was a complete surprise to him to see so many friends gather for this monumental occasion.

Hard to believe this was 17 years ago when I was getting ready to graduate from the first horological school I attended, the NAWCC School of Horology. Just a young buck, obsessed with the great George Daniels. Fast forward 17 years and I finally got to meet his successor, Roger Smith. How time flies!
