Shelton Metal designs are inspired by the depths of the sea; treasures that hold integrity to their origins whether they are recycled heirlooms or new sustainably sourced materials. lby Byrd attended East Carolina University for Art and studied under world-renowned metalsmiths and contemporary jewelers for jewelry design. After spending several months in Italy for an art intensive program, Colby was able to bring home the inspiration and skills needed to begin his own brand, Shelton Metal, in 2013. While in Italy, he attended workshops in enameling and contemporary design with some of the top designers in the region. Now, living back in America, he often travels the World for inspiration and collaborations to expand his brand and craft.

Whether you’re creating an engagement ring, redesigning a family heirloom, or bringing a meaningful idea to life, each piece is thoughtfully designed, hand carved, and crafted to be treasured for generations.

Weeks of carving, casting, packing, wrapping objects in newspaper, carrying boxes through freight elevators, surviving on coffee and adrenaline, and then suddenly it is over. The table is cleared. Thank you for the NYC Design Week feature ✨

“Shelton Metal showed a flatware set and candlestick holders modeled after “drippy sandcastles” made during childhood beach days. North Carolina designer Colby Byrd’s brand Shelton Metal is a great example of why I’m personally all for the jewelry-to-tableware design pipeline. Byrd says his designs draw inspiration from “the romance of the sea” and the “imagined elegance of a gentleman pirate’s table.” I lingered for a while at the shell cordial tower display.”
