Sometimes people comment about my enthusiasm on my posts. I have to be honest:

Some days I’m grasping. I’m trying to find some little thing in my life that might inspire ME, and I’m using YOU to do it.

But then there are days where I’m truly jacked up about something.

THIS is one of THOSE days.

A couple weeks ago I bought a grab bag of turquoise on a whim— and THIS beauty showed up. Now, this might not be a prized specimen to turquoise fans, but for me it was love at first sight.

So much so that I didn’t know what to do with it. There’s only one— oh, boy— what to make? Daunting! I’ve ended up with quite a hoard of gems because of this— cool stuff tends to sit here in limbo, sometimes for years.

BUT: I’ve been trying to make myself get over this funny little habit. So yesterday, while I was making a bezel for something else— I made one for this rock too. It’ll eventually need a frame— might as well have one ready. And, well, a bezel needs to be soldered to a flat plate, no matter how I decide to use it, so I might as well go the next step and add that too.

While I was doing these things that don’t require much thinking or deciding, I started musing about other things, and my head thought:

“anything can happen when the moon is full.”

Not a revolutionary thought, but a true one: great romantical things, higher tide, crazy behavior, crime sprees— ANYTHING can happen when the moon is full.

So, I have a rock, and a bezel, and this truism bouncing around in my head. I might as well put them all together, yes? Yes. Have to.

Hmmmm.

I can’t fit all of these words on the back of a ring. I guess I’m making a pendant.

“Anything” is a pretty long word. That’ll have to be on the widest part of the pendant: Rock has to be fat end up. Bam! All my deciding got done without me doing any deciding at all! As usual. Ha.

But there was one little thing left to decide: I was feeling a little lazy, and a lot excited to see how it all turned out, so to top things off (literally) I used a size 11 stacker ring, that had been on my desk for ages, as a loop on the top. When was the last time anyone asked for a size 11 stacker ring anyhow? Never! That’s why it was sitting there! Ain’t there now. Ha again. (Ha.)

And that’s how I got me this snazzy pendant on a Sunday morning before breakfast. Today, my enthusiasm is not forced— POW!

Whatcha think?

On my Etsy store now. Well, in a few minutes. Ha.

Here’s a Waxing Moon for an October Friday afternoon. The waxing crescent moon— which is the last quarter of the moon phase— has been associated with positivity and faith, coming change, and an opportunity for new beginnings. This crescent features a deep golden citrine and a sassy little peridot. These gems are associated with positivity and joy, and prosperity and good fortune— all good things and they look really nice too!

Since we’re on the topic of green and gold, I’ll make mention of what a glorious few weeks of autumn we’ve been having here in the Northeast mountains— things turned slowly this year, mixing fall colors with the remaining greens, and have been brighter and more colorful than the past few years. Also, we’ve been having some beautiful sunlight to show everything off— yay for us!

This is Bridgette. I have three today— one with a fiery hot rhodolite garnet, size 7.5, one with a deep, rich, golden citrine, size 8, and one with a bright, delicious sky blue topaz, size 9.

I’ve always loved this design— rustic, heavy, and lots of texture in the metal, but then a bright and perfect piece of shiny candy on the top— I get excited by the contrast whenever I’m finishing one up— how about youse? Yinz? Y’all? You all!

Whatcha think?

Dig this eye— can you believe that somebody made that out of molten glass about a hundred years ago to perfectly match a persons eye? Pretty amazing, eh?

I finished this pendant last week but it’s a project that has been cooking since mid April. After I posted pics of a glass eye ring I made for Rebecca, I received a message from someone hoping for a ring with a similarly colored eye— but I didn’t have any at that time. Green hazel has been the most requested color, and also the hardest to get my hands on. Over the summer I shared pics of any green eyes that came to me with the person who’d made the request, but none were as nice as the one he saw back in April. Finally, (maybe a month ago?) the perfect eye arrived. So it was time to make a ring. But we made a pendant instead. Ha. Maybe it’s good that we had to wait so long for everything to come together just right? I say yes. And that’s all I have to say.

Good morning to EVERYONE!

This ring is named Peggie Sue— after that girl in the old Buddy Holly song. If you listen to it, the singer doesn’t say a word about Peggie Sue— no description of any kind. He just says “if you knew, Peggie Sue, then you’d know why…” and then he professes his desire and undying love for her. I don’t know her, but she must be somethin’ else! So I named a ring after her.

This particular Peggie Sue is a size 8, she’s wearing a beautiful sky blue topaz, and she’s sitting over on my Etsy store waiting for someone to love her and take her home. Ha.

Happy day, y’all!

Modi wants to go outside. It looks like love, but it’s about “OUT!”. I’ll take what I can get.

Eyes, eyes. EYES! These particular life sized eyes were made for dolls and sculptures by a family that emigrated to the US from Germany in 1907. We don’t know exactly when each eye was made, but they were all produced between 1920 and 1960 and are still being sold by the great-grand-daughter of one of the artists. The pieces you see here here are posted to my Etsy store— if you have any questions, you know where to find me!

I’ve been making different versions of my Leafy Delight pendant for a long time. The big leafy links are the part that mostly stays the same, but the centerpiece, and the way I hook them all together, is subject to change.

Most frequently, I use a big, honkin’ cz as the centerpiece, but this time I’ve used one of the pendants that I make with Kris Hazen’s wonderful lamp work glass cabochons. I wasn’t sure how it’d work out, but now that it’s all put together and I’ve stepped back to take a peek I’m declaring victory. I think it’s a pretty sweet combination— what say you all?

I also made one with a CZ in it yesterday (you’ll see a sneak peek below) but I’ll post better pics later today or tomorrow. Both pendants are already on my Etsy store. If you have any questions just message me, I’m the man with the answers!

I know, I know, you’re all like:

“Hey! Enough with the jewelry nonsense, where’s Modi? What’s Modi up to?”

Well, here you go. We’ve been on the roof, in the cobwebs, blocking the stairs, commandeering Steve’s work station in the studio. Sleeping like a pile of pick-up-sticks…. The usual stuff.

How’s Wednesday treating you all?

Me? I’m torn between driving to town to refill the small tanks of oxygen and acetylene for my jewelers torch, or just dragging the giant tanks that I use for my casting torch into the studio so I can get busy with some soldering right now. I ran out right in the middle of making a hairpin last night. Gaaaaaah!

Hmmmmm…. Joy ride or get to work…. Life is hard. Stay tuned.

Here are a couple things I just finished and I’m too stoked to wait til tomorrow to share! How about a sneak peek type reel today and some non-moving pictures with proper info and some chitchat tomorrow morning? If I don’t get side tracked maybe we can all have our morning coffee together. Yeah? Yeah!

Oh— I’ve been advised to suggest that all of my customers, followers and friends who haven’t been seeing my posts go to my profile and select that little bell shaped icon in order to be alerted whenever I make a new post. If that’s something you’d be interested in, there you go.

Now then— off I go. Gonna post these to Etsy before I forget, and then maybe I’ll make dinner. Or a hairpin. Or a mess. To be determined as I go forward. Happy Tuesday night, yo!
