The Story of the Sweetheart Necklace
In old times, the sweetheart necklace was the most valued piece of jewelry given by a male.
When a male would find a female of romantic interest, he would go to his matriarch and ask for blessings and for a sweetheart necklace to be made for his romantic interest.
If the matriarch approved of the romantic interest, she would make a sweetheart necklace in the family colors. This was the equivalent of the new age engagement ring. Once the lady accepted the necklace, she was only to remove it if she was in her home, or when working on gathering food etc. If she was caught without the necklace in public, she was then considered single and was no longer given blessings from the man's matriarch.
Now days, the sweetheart necklace is used just a piece of jewelry.
