It’s all about COMMUNITY
Times are hard, my friends. It’s getting hard to survive in these little communities like ours, much less thrive. Unlike the bigger cities, we tend to lean on our friend and neighbors, our church families, our COMMUNITY.
I love living in a small town. I love how we all pull together when one of ours is in need. When someone has a death in the family, we all take food. When you can’t work because you have to take chemo, we pull together to make sure you have water, groceries, and a ride to the doctor. When your husband has a medical emergency and ends up with an extended hospital stay, we have chili dinners, we sell t-shirts, we PRAY. Our community, like millions of others across the midwest, is a tightknit extended family, with all the good, bad, and hilarious that goes along with it. (Remember when {fill in the blank} did {something incredibly stupid} right out in front of everyone at the {insert community event} and we had to bail him out of jail???)
You just don’t get that kind of support in the city. You’re anonymous, a face in the crowd. No one really even notices if you need a hand, much less cares. I choose to live here, in our little piece of Oklahoma that still adheres to the values and social customs that were in play in the 1950’s. Where we care about our neighbors, and their families, and they return the favor. Where you know who owns the hardware store, and his dad, and his kids....you know the D.A., you’re friends with the sheriff, you golf with the district judge on tuesday evenings.
These are the same things that called me to open a business in my community. I try to bring that same feeling-that COMMUNITY- to Wewoka Street Pawn and Gold. I like to know I’m helping people who don’t have the resources to get approved for a traditional bank loan, I like that EVERYONE gets the same opportunity in my shop. If you have something of value, I’ll loan money against it, or buy it outright. Your social status, financial status, or last name do not make a difference when you walk through that door. We are all equal.
