The Patek Philippe “Top Hat” Ref. 1450 — one of the manufacture’s great exercises in Art Deco design.

Introduced in the 1940s, the 1450 earned its nickname from its unmistakable silhouette: a long rectangular case framed by bold horizontal gadroons, creating an architectural profile unlike almost anything else in Patek Philippe’s catalogue.

This example is particularly beautiful in warm rose gold, with a wonderfully preserved silver dial, applied rose gold markers, and subsidiary seconds at six. The case remains remarkably crisp, allowing the sculptural geometry that defines the Top Hat to remain the star of the show.

A small engraving to the caseback — “CHE” — adds another layer of charm and a tangible connection to the watch’s past.

At just 25mm across, it is a reminder that presence has very little to do with size.

This mechanism features extra-long repeater gongs that encircle the movement nearly twice, producing a deeper, richer and more resonant chime and representing one of the highest expressions of the manufacture’s acoustic watchmaking.

As much as piece of fine jewelry as it is a watch, this remarkable cuff features turquoise and diamonds elegantly woven across a wide bracelet. At the center sits a watch, set inside a diamond bezel with a lavender guilloché dial. Made in the 1990s, this watch shows clear influence, if not a direct product, of Audemars Piguet’s head of design, Jacqueline Dimier.

These “UFO” 3580s are such a cool deviation from the brands more traditional designs. [Available Now]

An elliptical shaped case with a round dial, nice brushed finish and quite slim.

Notable is the backwind automatic movement, which hides the crown. To make the watch slim, the rotor is designed to spin on ball bearings set on the outside track rather than center mounted. This often has collectors surprised to hear the rotor spinning around.
