Here’s a great-looking 1970s-era 18K yellow gold Vacheron & Constantin dress watch with an integral 18K gold basketweave bracelet.

We are very partial to this style of gold work. The woven, quilted metal work gives the bracelet wonderful depth and texture, softness and flexibility without excessive weight. Vacheron produced a number of variations over the years, with different case shapes, dial materials and finishes, but they all share the same unmistakable appeal.

In recent years, these precious-metal bracelet watches from the great luxury houses have come back into fashion in a big way. Along the way, we’ve heard them described by a few less-than-flattering monikers. Some writers call them “geezer watches,” while others have used the term “Liberace watches.”

Frankly, we’re not fond of either description.

These watches represented an era when quality was defined by rich materials, fine metal craftsmanship and a more tailored or dressy style. As a counterpoint to the still so popular sporty and colorful tool watches, they feel every bit as distinctive and elegant as they did fifty years ago.

So we’re asking for your help. What name is more descriptive and complimentary for this category of watch? We’re asking for a lot of input. What do you suggest?
