We have a particular affinity for October’s birthstone...⚡️⚡️⚡️

The chameleon, color-changing opal derives its name from the Greek word “opallios”, meaning to perceive a change of color. In early civilization, opals were largely believed to possess powers of a positive nature, such as enhancing the wearer’s farsightedness or protecting against disease. The ancient Greeks imbued opals with qualities of foresight and prophecy, while Arab cultures believed opals fell from the heavens in flashes of lightning.

In the 19th century, opals fell out of favor due to a reputation for bringing bad luck to the wearer if the gem was not their birthstone. Queen Victoria helped reverse the spread of these unfounded rumors by wearing opal gems often, keeping a magnificent collection, and gifting opals to her five daughters and close friends.
