Para Vitam

Para Vitam Handmade paracord products using materials made in the U.S.A.

Hello, everybody!

I apologize that I haven't updated in a while. I have had a lot going on personally so I stepped back from the paracord to focus on other priorities for a while.

I have been working on building up some inventory lately to take advantages of other ways to sell product. I'm working on producing some standard sizes of bracelets for people to buy off the shelf that I can put up at different locations. Mostly this is to increase the visibility of the brand and bring people in to learn about all the custom options.

Something else I am getting ready to start work on are wrapping tomahawk handles. So, I haven't decided if I should do a couple in different colors to start or to keep them 100% custom. I'll be making a separate post specifically about orders for tomahawks soon, so, if you are interested, keep an eye out for that or send a message to the page.

I really appreciate everybody here following the page! I hope you didn't forget about ol' Para Vitam while I was gone. I'll still be accepting custom orders, but, my primary push for the next little bit is going to be building inventory. Hopefully, after I get back into the swing of things, I have some more cool new ideas to share with you.

Y'all take care and stay prepared!

Thanks so much for all the new likes! I've been kind of consumed with one project for a little while, so, content has just been a lot of progress updates on that. However, I have some other orders and new projects to try lined up for the near future.

Feel free to message the page if you see something you like or you'd like to talk about custom work.

This is such a cool project, but, I'll be glad when I can share another project with you, lol.

Crunch time, people! I have to get this busted out for tomorrow. I don't know if I'm going to do any more of these. I love it, it's looking great, but there's just so many hours in it, it is hard to justify the price it would have to be or the logistics of having a person's vehicle for 2 weeks. What I initially saw as a cosmetic upgrade, I now realize is an intricate car mod.

Taking a short breather for an update.

Made a lot of progress this morning in 2 hours, but, still going slower than I'd like. I'd like to admit something about this project. I SCREWED UP! And I think it's important to admit it. I vastly underestimated the complexity of the job, the time it would take, and the significance the cold weather would play.

I initially set aside 3 days for the whole job. 2 weeks later, here we are. Part of that is my fault, part is circumstance, but, I take responsibility for it all the same. I hate to miss a deadline. It's a personal and professional failure. I appreciate Brandon has been so patient. This has been a very revealing experience showing me that I have a lot to learn about estimating and bidding a job and that I also sell myself a bit short because of it.

Lesson: don't shy away from admitting failure, learning from it, and growing from the experience. Also, try to give yourself grace when you fall short because you are going to fall short if you ever expect to get better.

Had to come inside and warm up a bit. Trying to hammer through and get this knocked out. Once I get past this first spoke, the whole process should speed up. I've used about 1/4 of the blue cord and the shorter it gets, the faster I can weave. Right now, if I stretch it out, it is still as long as the parking lot, lol.

It's a slow process, but, as you see it come to shape, the work is so worth it. Been working on the blue since 10a and it's 3:35p now (minus a short lunch). Yeah, this part is slow. As I go further, it goes faster because I have less and less cord to manage on each pass.

Here's a little thought I'd like to share.

Be careful thinking just because something is simple that it's easy. Making things out of paracord is like that. Nothing that I do or make is complicated. The processes and patterns are very simple. However, all of the things you don't see that goes into it can be hard sometimes. You have to learn about different knots and patterns, sometimes you have to improvise to make something look right or to modify something you know into something that works for what you want to make, sometimes the scale of a project presents a challenge.

A lot of things in life are the same way. You may see success or beauty, but, you don't see all of the steps that were necessary to make it happen. It's easy to look at some situations and think a solution or particular result is simple. It may be simple, but, if it was easy, someone would probably have already done it.

That's a long winded way to say something really simple, lol: it might be simple, but, it isn't easy.

Update on the steering wheel wrap: sorry the process has been slow. The first two pictures represents 7 to 7 1/2 hours of work. That doesn't include the first attempt I took off before.

The third picture is the beginning of weaving the blue cord through the black. Spaghetti, anyone?
