Get lost in the beauty of a Luna Moth! It's and I have 180 summer brood Luna moth cocoons waiting to emerge!

If you are local and want to buy one for pick up, please DM me. I won't be listing them on my site this round or shipping them, as some have already eclosed.

This song I found is silly and cute and perfect. I love my babies. I hope you do too! This picture is a pile of perfect Luna moth cocoons, all wrapped up in their silk threads and black walnut leaves.

A captive raised female Luna moth in the front, with the very dark upper wing margins, and a wild caught male in the back, with much lighter colors. These two had just finished mating when I took the photo. I let him go later that night, and she is with me, laying eggs. I had one other female successfully pair with a wild male a few days ago, and am waiting for those eggs to hatch now. Soon I will be up to my wings in caterpillars! ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆ‹ My favorite time of year!

Have you ever seen a Luna moth? ๐Ÿ’š

These moths are native to our area. I have been raising them for about 10 years now. The adults are very simple to care for, as the adult Luna Moth actually has no functional mouth part and so it does not eat. The entire life purpose of the adult is to find a mate and reproduce for the next generation.

I have been breeding this line in Upper Black Eddy using wild caught males to keep the DNA strong. After the male mates with one of my females I release him to the wild to find another! Then my females lay eggs and I raise the caterpillars to the cocoon phase. The whole life cycle is fascinating to me and I am happy to answer any questions!

If you have ordered already, I just shipped all current orders this morning!

I love Birch trees. I love their papery white bark. Naturally, when I came across a fallen Birch branch, I sliced it into little cookies and made some jewelry with it. This is one of those Birch tree slices, and it has been adorned with a real butterfly wing preserved in resin, and hung from a golden ring. ๐Ÿฆ‹

I recently added lots of new pieces to my shop, including this treasure. I hope you will hop on over and take a peek at what's new, perhaps there is something there for you or a loved one!

New things include pottery, butterfly pocket knives, feather earrings, crystal skeleton key necklaces, and much much more! www.ringingrocksjewelry.com

I just finished this sterling silver and labradorite necklace last night. The dragonfly fairy is entirely hand crafted. I believe this piece is already spoken for, but I couldn't wait to share it with you all here! It's been years since I have been at my silversmithing bench and it felt good to return to this work! Keep an eye out for another sterling piece in the works featuring a stag horn beetle and a turquoise cabochon. Stay tuned!
