🦣 Something prehistoric just wandered into the Lair...

Meet one of our newest arrivals: genuine woolly mammoth hair from Yakutia, Siberia.

Woolly mammoths (Mammuthus primigenius) survived the brutal Ice Age cold with two layers of hair: a dense insulating undercoat beneath long, coarse guard hairs that could reach incredible lengths.

These specimens date to the Late Pleistocene, approximately 10,000–30,000 years old.
And now you can own a tiny piece of one.

Each specimen contains genuine woolly mammoth hair displayed in its own little frame with an identification card. Because this is natural material, every one is completely unique—some have more fine undercoat, some have longer guard hairs, and no two look quite alike.

Imagine that for a second. The hair inside that little frame once belonged to an animal walking across Ice Age Siberia thousands upon thousands of years ago. 🦣

Something BIG just swam into the Lair! 🦈

Meet our newest arrival: a 4.07" Megalodon tooth, recovered from a river in Georgia.

Megalodon (Otodus megalodon) ruled the oceans for millions of years, and because sharks are almost entirely cartilage, their teeth make up much of the fossil record they left behind. Sharks also continually shed and replace their teeth throughout their lives, leaving behind countless opportunities for those teeth to become fossils.

This one has made quite the journey from an ancient ocean, to a Georgia river and somehow all the way to Oklahoma. Now it's ready for its Oklahoma forever home. ❤️

🦈 Did you know sharks are basically tooth making machines?

Unlike humans, sharks don't get one set of baby teeth followed by one set of adult teeth. They continually produce and replace teeth throughout their lives.

Their teeth develop in rows, and as teeth at the front are lost, new ones move forward to replace them. Depending on the species, a single shark can go through thousands of teeth during its lifetime.

That's also part of the reason shark teeth are relatively common in the fossil record. Sharks have skeletons made mostly of cartilage, which doesn't fossilize nearly as readily as bone, but all those teeth have a much better chance of sticking around.

So when you find a fossil shark tooth you're holding one tiny piece of an animal that disappeared millions of years ago.

Seems like a perfectly good reason to bring one home to me! 🤷‍♀️😂

Curiosity Buckets are finally back! 🖤

Life has been life-ing, and one of our supply orders took almost two weeks to arrive, but the wait is over! I’ll be restocking our Curiosity Buckets tomorrow at The Oracle Vintage & Arts.

Each bucket is packed with over 50 natural treasures and curiosities hidden throughout layers of confetti sand. Treasures like minerals, fossils, shark teeth, Japanese star sand, Lord Derby Eland hide, and more. Every bucket is a little different, and the fun is in digging through and discovering what you got!

Well...I'd call the Curiosity Buckets a success. 😊

The test batch officially sold out in just one week!

I can't thank you all enough for the encouragement, shares, and support for Laila's Lair. Watching an idea go from concept to design to packaging and then sell out within a week has been an incredible feeling!

Now it's time to start building the next batch. I'm so excited to see where this journey takes Laila's Lair! 🥰
