Does radiance require risk? Sungrazer comets travel impossibly close to the Sun, pulled inward by gravity until they erupt into spectacular brightness under extreme heat and pressure. Some survive the passage. Others fracture into luminous trails across the sky.
These earrings were inspired by that moment of transformation. 24k gold starbursts flare across silver hollow forms above articulated gold druzies that seem almost molten in the light.
There’s something fascinating about celestial bodies that become more luminous the closer they move toward the source.

Update: The Battle of The Rings competition sweet 16 voting has come to a close and while I made a very strong showing (59-41) against a juggernaut of an Instagram presence and arguably a beautiful and beautifully constructed ring, it wasn't ultimately enough to advance in the competition. I had a blast and learned a lot that will inform my approach to the competition next year. Considering I hadn't even expected to have my work accepted into the competition, I am beyond thrilled with my performance. Thank you to everyone who voted and feel free to keep playing along in the final rounds. Some gorgeous rings out there!.

What did my Wednesday night have in common with Cleopatra? 👑

We both spent time with lapis lazuli. Cleopatra famously used powdered lapis as eyeshadow.

Last night, I was in the slab shack at the Austin Gem and Mineral Society, getting hands-on with the big slab saws. I took a hefty piece of gorgeous lapis and sliced it down into thinner sections that will eventually become cabochons. 💎

Not long ago, those giant saws would’ve felt intimidating. But after Saturday’s intro to slabbing class (and my first real session last night), I’m feeling surprisingly confident! There’s something so satisfying about turning a rough block of stone into workable slices, ready for the next stage of their journey.

Swipe through 👉 to see:
🔹 The lapis in the saw
🔹 Freshly cut slices
🔹 And yes, even one resting in kitty litter—because that’s what absorbs the mineral oil left behind by the saw. (Not just for cats, apparently 🐾😆)

Can’t wait to transform these beautiful blue slabs into finished cabochons. Stay tuned—this is only the beginning!
