Who says you have to be a star to steal the spotlight? These custom earrings were inspired by one of the universe's most dramatic events—a tidal disruption, when a star ventures too close to a black hole and is torn apart by its immense gravitational forces.

Handcrafted in sterling silver, the earrings feature platinum-coated druzy at the heart of each singularity, with articulated elements that move and shimmer with every turn of the head.

But the best part of creating a custom piece isn't the final polish or even seeing the finished design come together. It's seeing the jewelry on the person it was created for.

I delivered these to the client today, and I couldn't be happier with how they look on her! They're bold, brilliant, full of movement, and just a little dramatic. In other words, a perfect match for her sparkling personality.

Are you a sw***er? I’m talking about earrings, of course. What did you think I meant? 😜

These earrings have two hinges connecting the star to the black hole that is slowly drawing it closer as the star's own gravity resists. Watch as I set the hinges into place and bring all that movement to life.

Some earrings are for those who like to play it safe. These are for the more adventurous.

Sometimes the gem show comes to you. ✨
I asked my favorite lapidary artist, Greg Genovese, to cut a few pairs of magnetite jade for me in a specific shape I had in mind for earrings.

He did. And then he sent me the rest of the batch to choose from. As in… $12,000 worth of magnetite jade showed up on my doorstep. 😳

For a few glorious days, I had my own private gem show spread out in front of me—and first dibs on every stone.

No, I did not keep them all. I showed some restraint. 😂 But these are the ones that made the cut, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to choose from the full collection.

Now comes the fun part: turning them into jewelry worthy of the stones. ✨ Which one would you have grabbed first?

What happens when science meets myth?
For my final Spirit of Space spotlight before tonight’s opening reception, I’m sharing a piece that lives right at that intersection: Crown Comet.

Comets are real celestial travelers, transformed by heat and sunlight as they move through the solar system. But throughout history, humans have also seen them as omens, messengers, and symbols of change.

Crown Comet brings those two ways of seeing the sky together. Its imagined myth tells of seven celestial guardians who combine their light into a golden crown and cast it into the heavens, where it becomes a blazing Comet.

For me, that’s where so much of the wonder lives—not in choosing between science and story, but in allowing both to shape how we see the universe.

Do you believe in second chances? Earlier this year, Laniakea Interwoven stepped into the 2026 Battle of the Rings competition—and made it all the way to the Round of 16 before being knocked out by some seriously stiff competition.

But that wasn’t the end of her story.

Now she's getting a second moment in the spotlight as part of Spirit of Space at Art for the People Gallery—and she is once again available for viewing and purchase.

Inspired by Laniakea, the immense supercluster of galaxies that includes our own Milky Way, this ring traces the idea of galaxies moving together in a vast cosmic current—a reminder that nothing in the universe moves alone.

I loved watching so many of you cheer this ring on during Battle of the Rings. Now she gets another chance to be seen up close—and maybe even to find the person she was meant for.

Why do comets grow tails? Today’s Spirit of Space spotlight comes from my Comets collection: Sun Grazer.

Comets are made of ice, dust, and rock. As they travel closer to the Sun, heat causes their frozen materials to vaporize, releasing gas and dust around the nucleus. Solar radiation and the solar wind then push that material outward, creating the glowing tails we associate with comets.

Sungrazing comets take that journey to the extreme, passing extraordinarily close to the Sun.
That combination of heat, light, movement, and transformation inspired these earrings.
Gold druzies glow beneath sterling silver forms patterned with 24k gold starbursts, while articulated hinges allow the different elements to move independently—echoing the shifting motion of a comet in flight.
