Splendors of Life in the Dragon Gate: ‘The Legend of Longmen’ by Sophie Cudworth Wins Gold in GCDC
‘The Legend of 龍門Longmen (Dragon Gate)’ Collection, designed by Sophie Cudworth, received gold at the Goldsmith’s Crafts & Design Council Craftsmanship & Design Awards (GCDC) 2024 in the Peridot Jewellery ‘Year of the Dragon’ category.
The jewellery is inspired by the traditional Chinese legend, ‘koi carp battle upstream through the dragon gate’ (‘The Legend of Longmen’), and demonstrates the mighty spirits of rising to challenges and going beyond oneself. It is a reminder that those who achieve great things always have the potential for greatness.
The piece paints out the deep connection between body and spirit. It features 134 cushion cut, 6 round cut and one 2.46ct cushion cut Fuli peridots at a total weight of 25.91 carats. Setting on more than 100g 18K gold. All of the Fuli peridots are from Yiqisong Nanshan Peridot Mine in China, and its operator, Fuli Gemstones is the sponsor of GCDC.
As the world’s largest known exploitable rough peridot resource uptil December 31, 2023, Yiqisong Nanshan Peridot Mine shows a consistent grade of high-quality gemstone distribution across the resource.
