The mood of the shop is set by the art and Alessandro, our youngest kid, is largely responsible for making this space feel like you are walking into a museum. Today, this artist turns 19!!! Notes from Sonny's Bench:

Some stones need very little metal work because they speak for themselves.
This Maligano Jasper, which was cut by Troy Verzani, is one of those stones.
It looks like fall foliage in trees on a stormy day and has added excitement with natural manganese dendrites. The setting was hand fabricated by me in sterling silver. This one is going into the shop collection. 😊

A customer brought in these Apache Tears that were collected 40 years ago around the Superior, Arizona area. These were cut by Sonny on our 8" Cab King with Diamond Pacific Diamond resin wheels. The high shine was accomplished by using a muslin wheel with water and a Cerium Oxide Battstik from Gearloose Lapidary, the sister shop in the back of the shop.
They look edible! Apache Tears are obsidian/volcanic glass and are very chippy to work with but you would never guess that by looking at these stones! Delicious!!!😋

🫧🫧Under the Sea.... Millions of years ago.🫧🫧
We have "new" high end mineral fossils in the shop this week from Morocco.
Displayed beautifully in gazing globes that look like bubbles, these fossils are the perfect special occasion gift for the fossil lover in your life.

We have new Gem Trees in the shop made by Sonny. These trees are made from copper wire and feature Arizona Peridot from Steven Joey's mine in San Carlos, AZ and Petrified Wood from our claim up north
Two of the trees are inspired by Juniperus osteosperma, Utah Junipers which thrive along the edge of the Grand Canyon! These wind swept trees can live to be 300-700 years old and some of the more ancient ones are 1000 years old. Amazingly, these trees are self pruning during droughts and will drop off what is needed to preserve moisture until the next rainy season!

We have some amazing new items inventoried in the shop this week that include high end mineral slabs from Arizona, black tourmaline and quartz specimens from Pakistan and gorgeous, green, Persian, demantoid garnet specimens.
Wow!!!! So beautiful!!!!💗
