Oria Studio is a handmade jewellery label I started in Sydney. I decided to quit my full time job in 2016 and pursue a freelance graphic design career, at the same time I started to play with some clay. It was like finding a long lost love! I started creating jewellery for myself and fell head over heels. I named this passion project Oria, which means limits in Greek, something I try to push every day.
Being half Australian and half Greek has given me the opportunity to travel a lot and be a part of two very different worlds simultaneously. My dad was a goldsmith in Greece and I remember watching in awe as he poured melted gold and created incredibly complicated jewellery from scratch. My jewellery just like my life experiences, is a mix of different styles, while striving for a clean and simple aesthetic.
I create geometric jewellery out of polymer clay, combined with brass, copper, wood, leather and other natural media. All the work takes place in my home studio, and every polymer clay piece is handmade.
My earrings vary from studs, to small statement earrings to larger danglers in many different shapes and combinations. I also create long necklaces and chokers with chunky polymer clay beads, as well as necklaces with layered polymer clay pieces.
I always have some timeless black options in all my styles, but I also use a lot of earthy, natural, basic tones, as well as colour combinations inspired by beautiful landscapes. I like my colour combinations to look almost like paint mixed together, rather than clay. These multi tonal designs are especially unique as no two will ever be the same.
