Stewarts was originally located in the Bazemore Bakery which was directly across the street from its current site. The store was later moved across Green Street into a building adjacent to the old Dixie Theater. Robert was a native of Treutlen County and served in the U. S. Army. During WWII he was stationed in the Philippines. Following his military service, he worked as a watchmaker in Dublin, G
eorgia before moving to Swainsboro to start his own watch repair business. Frances is a graduate of Swainsboro High School and Andrew College. Before relocating to Swainsboro, she was employed by the V.A. in Dublin where she met Robert. Robert was actively involved in the business providing jewelry and watch repair services to the citizens of the community until around the time of his death in 2003. Frances remained active in the business until her retirement. Stewart's is blessed to be serving the community now into its' 8th decade. The business is now operated by the Stewart children, Robert S. (Sammy) Stewart, III and Sallie Stewart McNeely. Sammy continues in the tradition of his father providing Jewelry and watch repair services. The Stewart's daughter Sallie, and Sammy's wife Janice Stewart, are responsible for sales and customer service, purchasing, and the administrative side of the business. Over the years "Stewarts" has added a full line of diamond, gold and silver jewelry, watches, clocks, and assorted Giftware. "Stewarts" also features a bridal registry where engaged couples selection's of china, silver, and crystal are on display. Customers may stop by or call in to order bridal gifts for newlyweds-to-be. Sammy, Sallie and Janice, along with the remainder of Stewart's experienced staff, continue to serve the local community by striving to meet customers jewelry, bridal and gift buying needs.
