Give forgotten keys and a piece of scrap wood a second story in your home. 🗝️🤎
DIY REPURPOSED KEY WALL HOOKS
You’ll need:
• Old keys with no remaining use
• A clean piece of scrap wood
• Sandpaper
• Wood glue or strong adhesive suitable for metal and wood
• Acrylic paint or stain
• A paintbrush
• Small screws or picture-hanging hardware
• Optional: twine, dried greenery, or a paint pen
How to make it:
1. Sand the wood until the surface is smooth, then wipe away dust.
2. Leave the wood natural or finish it in warm taupe, cream, sage, or muted terracotta.
3. Arrange the keys in a row or playful sunburst pattern.
4. Secure each key firmly and allow the adhesive to cure according to its instructions.
5. Add hanging hardware and install the piece securely near your entryway.
Use it for keys, lightweight scarves, or a small market bag. Add a handwritten word such as “return,” “gather,” or “home” for a personal touch.
For a March wedding, make a small version with the couple’s initials as a practical first-home keepsake or a thoughtful gift for the getting-ready suite.
Safety note: Wear eye protection while sanding, smooth sharp key edges, keep adhesives away from children, and use appropriate anchors for your wall type. Do not hang heavy items from the finished piece.
Would you keep the keys weathered and vintage or paint them in a coordinated palette? ✨
