As part of Spooner Celebrates America’s 250th, we’re excited to launch a new community passport experience that encourages locals and visitors alike to explore businesses throughout Spooner and the surrounding area!

📘 Passport booklets will officially go on sale beginning May 20 and will be available at select local businesses starting May 20th and 21st.

For just $5, participants can visit participating businesses, redeem special offers, and collect stamps along the way, creating a fun keepsake filled with local memories and experiences.

Hello! I just wanted jump on here and give a little back story on Shiny Precious Gems & what to expect from our Spooner storefront.

About 7 years ago my husband Jim began hobby faceting. He self taught himself how to custom cut gemstones by watching YouTube videos. For those who don’t know Jim he is a jack of all trades and if he doesn’t know how to do something he will figure it out and learn it and then do it well. Fast forward to 2019 Jim created a Reddit group called Shiny Precious Gems and began selling his stones after receiving messages on his “show and tell stones” he had posted on his personal page. He quickly had a quota he could not fill on his own so he invited select lapidaries who quickly shared their love and pride in the work they do and built a lovely community. “Customers” have become like family and even built strong relationships with one another simply from the SPG community.

Jim and I saw the storefront was for rent and knew this would be an amazing opportunity to give SPG a physical location. We will have custom cut gemstones, fossils, and artwork. We decided to include fossils as they have been a part of our interests since we were dating years ago. We have fossil hunted on many vacations including the Peace River in Florida which will be on display!

Inside the storefront we have set up Jim’s cutting desk to allow customers to watch him transform rough into the shiny rocks we all love and wear; ranging from earrings & pendants to engagement and family inspired birthstone rings. Questions are fully welcome during the observation and encouraged!

We hope to bring education on faceting as it is not a well known or talked about profession. It’s a time consuming and very precise process. Jim loves what he does and I strongly believe it’s the reason why he has such beautiful stones.

I was introduced into this gem world and became fascinated as I was clueless beforehand. I quit my job to be full time with our daughter and go full force into opening up our store. I believe in the quality of work we do, the thought and dedication put into each piece and the intention behind the business. You will find me greeting you all, managing the store, and the person to help with creating a custom jewelry piece shall you need one. You might even find me wrangling our toddler, yes we will be a child friendly store. With that said there will be breakable and precious items to be aware of when stopping by.

We are very close to opening the doors. For now please be patient, follow the updates, and enjoy a couple of our more unique pieces in the front window displays.
