Hello friends!
When I launched J’s Quilt Studio in 2021, I had a goal - to meet people, make friends, and build community all by doing what I love – quilting. That goal has been achieved many times over the last 3+ years and I have all of you to thank for that! We recently moved back to Sioux Falls SD to be closer to family and fully retired. So, it’s time to shut down J’s Quilt Studio. I’m still doing what I love and look forward to learning about the quilting community here. Thanks again for your friendship and trusting me with your quilting projects. I’ve so enjoyed meeting each of you. God bless! ❤️

So, J's Quilt Studio LLC just finished it's 200th quilt!!!
It was an adorable Noah’s Ark baby quilt pieced by Karen Forbes for her next great grandbaby. To celebrate, I gave her $20 off her quilting. She chose my own Random Waves quilting design in Aqua thread.

Here are a few fun facts about my business since I started in April 2021:
- After quilting 200 quilts, the stitch count on my Q24 is over 10 million stitches. That’s roughly 50,000 stitches per quilt!
- Those 10 million stitches stretched out would go about 17.5 miles. The quilts I worked on would more than cover an NBA basketball court.
- I’ve attached 3 football fields worth of bindings.
- My most popular quilting design has been Looped Flowers Panto2 by (24) with Ground Cover by Barbara Becker as the second (13).
- The most chosen thread color is Cobblestone (21) with White (12) in second place.

It’s been a blessing to get to know so many wonderful quilters! I’ve watched them become more adventurous with their quilts, quilting designs, and thread colors. I am so thankful to all of you for supporting my small business and giving me the opportunity to do what I love!

My friend Barb Benjamin chose a simple pattern, but made it very striking with fun grey prints, white lattice, and black borders. The China Grove quilting design (by Keryn Emmerson) gives it nice texture with all the curves and points. The lighter Ash Mist thread color does not detract from all the fun fabrics in the quilt top yet looks great on the darker backing.

How often does this happen? I had 2 identical quilts in my queue!

Check out the gorgeous fall colors and stunning border fabric. The first was pieced by Jean Graham from Quilter’s Haven. Jean chose Ground Cover by Barbara Becker and Stone thread. The second was pieced by Sharon Vogelaar from Sanborn. For her quilt, we chose Forest Floor by Lorien Quilting using Caramel Cream thread. So fun to be able to see both results side by side!

These simple little quilts were stitched & tied by “Grandma Sophie” a long time ago. You can tell that they were well loved! The fabric was faded and torn and the batting was in shreds in many areas. Joan Hanson was hoping I could give them a little TLC so they could continue to be loved. She wanted to maintain the soft drape and the yarn ties. We agreed on adding binding & simple quilting to reinforce everything. One was badly torn in the middle. So, I cut that section out and rejoined the end pieces. The reclaimed batting was used to fill in some of the bare spots elsewhere. I loaded them on my long arm to do the simple quilting – LoopedFlowers_Panto2 by in Summer Sky & Imperial Blue thread. Binding and a label for each makes them ready for many more years of love!

This quilt was pieced, quilted & bound as a shop sample for Clover Cottage in Emmetsburg, IA. The quilting design is Snow Winds by Barbara Becker & Patricia Ritter with white thread.

Colorful, whimsical tulips pieced by Karen Forbes. The Bramble quilting design (by Keryn Emmerson) gives an all-over floral, leafy, curvy texture to the background. Choosing white thread also lets the quilting be subtle and the beautiful fabric tulips shine! Karen likes to hand stitch the binding to the back, but has me machine stitch it to the front for her. Check out this Grey & Gold scrappy, yet modern quilt pieced by Sharon Vogelaar. She wanted butterflies in the quilting so we chose Butterfly_01_E2E quilting design by Aggy Burczyk. The thread is cobblestone (medium grey).

This stunning quilt was pieced by Marilyn Lewis as a gift for a grandson’s wedding. Mariliyn is a big fan of GEDesigns quilt patterns – they make clever use of rulers and recutting blocks. This pattern is called Athena from the Stripology Mixology 2 book. We chose Streamer by Keryn Emmerson as the quilting design using Navy thread. And, the quilting looks gorgeous on the light grey cuddle fabric used on the back!
