Like everyone else, I took hugs for granted. They were just a part of everyday life... saying hello, goodbye, or doing it just because it felt good. But the recent pandemic has reminded us that human touch is a privilege, as many of us are missing the embraces of loved ones whom we can’t see or touch. For me, the hardest part of this crisis has been being cut off from my best friend (my mom). She is 83 with a history of heart trouble… so even if I get to see her, I just don’t dare to hug her yet! It’s tough!! 😢
So for those of us who miss the comforting hugs of our loved ones, here’s a gift idea that could help ease the pain... I call these necklaces my “little hugs,” because the symbol reminds me of a person with their arms outstretched, ready to embrace someone... and it gave me an idea for Mother's Day. Jewelry has always been a means of connection... a way to represent emotion to someone far away, especially when paired with a promise, an emotion, or strong sentiment from the giver. So I wrote this little poem to send along with the "hug" necklaces. If something about this idea rings true to you, I'd love to help you make your mom happy this Mother's Day... even if you can't give her the hugs you want to!
