Ocean Jasper Druzy is a gemstone from Madagascar known for its spherical patterning. The term druzy refers to the clear coating of tiny quartz crystals that coat the top of this particular stone. Lepidolite, initially called lilalite for its lavender color, is a mica mineral that is usually pink, red, or purple in color. It was renamed lepidolite from the Greek word “leipidos”, meaning “scale” because of its scaly appearance.

Lepidolite is thought to have a calming effect on nervous people and for those who are under stress. I can definitely see the dreamy and tranquil qualities in this beautiful cabochon.

This month’s featured artist is Jordan Staples of DookW. Native of Washington, DC, Jordan became obsessed with making jewelry after taking a beading course in high school. He later enrolled in a local goldsmith school to formally complete his studies in metalwork and to expand his skills. He has since gone on to be showcased at various markets and venues along the east coast over the last decade.

His work is heavily influenced by history, various cultures, nature and spirituality. Jordan is fascinated by miniature sculptures and symbolism, and uses the medium of jewelry to educate and uplift those who wear his pieces. The majority of his creations are one-of-a-kind, therefore never to be replicated.

If the tourmalinated quartz from the last post caught your eye, here’s another stranded quartz I think you’ll fall in love with. Rutilated quartz has thin strands of rutile that look like gold running through it. These beads have a unique glitz that really stands out in jewelry.

No, there’s nothing wrong with your screen. These beautiful black and white beads are tourmalinated quartz, also sometime referred to as tourmalated quartz. They range from clear to milky white, and are crisscrossed with strands of black tourmaline. I’m sure they‘d add just the right touch of drama to any necklace or bracelet.

Four different strands of beads to brighten the day. From left to right, the unique beauty that is Tanzanite in all its blue-purple (blurple?) glory, Grossular Garnet for those January birthday’s looking for a little something different, the cheeriness of Blue Apatite to uplift one’s mood, and last but not least, the boldness of Pyrite to add just the right amount of decadence. Individually or combined, I think these beads will make any piece standout.
