Quyanaa to April, Dehrich, Vanessa, Ash and Chyian at the Alutiiq Museum for making my visit as an Artist in Residence so special. It was great to see so many people, especially those I’ve never met in person including Susie Malutin! She was my buddy in Alutiiq Orthography taught by Alisha Drabek at the Kodiak College a couple years ago! I also got to see Alisha who happened to be in town at the same time! Did I take a photo? No, I forgot to take photos. 😂 Qy to Kari Sherod at Afognak Corporation for showing me around town. Qy to MJ and Libby out at Kodiak College! Quyanaa everyone!

Pictures of her wearing it style coming in July!

Took inspiration from a Chugach headdress housed at NMAI and the Ugashik headdresses housed at NMNH collection at the Anchorage Museum and the Phoebe Hearst Museum.

Making a bunch of these Kugyasiruaq Beaded Net Necklaces. The red, blue and pink one is a recreation of the original one that was collected in Nuchek by William J Fisher in the 1890’s and is now housed at the Smithsonian. The notes said that the necklace was made by a blind woman! (4th photo)

There was another of these, also collected by Fisher and housed at SiNMNH but was collected from a maker in Katmai along with a headdress. (5th photo)

Qy to for asking me to look at these wonderful pieces while I was at NMNH last March!
