Custom project highlight ✨ Hannah and Tomás came to me looking for wedding bands without an exact vision for their project but knowing that they wanted two rings with a similar theme that showcased their love of nature. We stared with gems, and they both fell in love with parti color sapphires. From there, we bounced around some theme ideas and landed on their shared love of ferns!

We sketched, we built wax models, and we refined until we had two gorgeous unique bands tied together by their fern motif and featured sapphires. Hannah’s larger blue/green gem sits wrapped in fern fronds that continue around the band. Tomás has more stylized, recessed fern fronds that that highlight his smaller gem which is set in a flowering stem.

This was a fun project to feature because it’s a great example of how to create totally individual, unique wedding bands that still go together without matching perfectly, and because it was done almost entirely virtually (we managed 3 rounds of wax and a casting in their one week visit to Seattle), which is always an exciting challenge!

Custom project highlight and some fun facts on platinum ✨ Daniel and Ora came to the studio for an engagement ring for Daniel, and arrived with a pretty clear vision that we were able to refine into a ring design that incorporated all of Daniel’s dream elements plus some sweet personal details.

He knew that he wanted a large, lab-created, emerald cut sapphire set in a very geometric platinum ring. As we were chatting and sketching and looking at gems, I noted that Ora’s ring was done in rose gold and suggested that we add a rose gold element to Daniel’s to tie the pieces together.

Once we had picked out our gem (a gorgeous emerald cut Chatham sapphire) and had refined the ring’s shape, size, and rose gold detailing in wax, we sent the piece off to Portland to be cast in platinum by a company called TechForm. Besides doing a generally fantastic casting job, they also do a HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) process. Platinum is prized for its bright white color and long term durability, but is actually softer than white gold and can pick up surface dings and dents more quickly. White gold is a naturally creamy color and, while more scratch resistant, is less dense and can wear out faster over time. Through the HIP process though, platinum can achieve the same strength as white gold while maintaining its natural density and brightness.

The result for Daniel and Ora was a ring that blends a classic style with their personal touches, and that will maintain its beauty through the years!

Extra special project highlight ✨Jonny is the owner and stylist at , has been a friend of mine for a very long time, and was one of the inspirations behind me opening Glitter and Gold! He started his wonderful salon right in the thick of COVID and his determination, passion, and dedication to his vision of an inclusive space stoked my own.

When Jonny and his partner Kai started thinking about engagement, we got together to talk rings. As much as Jonny loved the idea of a custom ring for himself, he immediately fell in love with a geometric cut Montana sapphire ring that I already had in stock. He just couldn’t get that one off his mind and it ultimately became his engagement ring (sometimes the right one just finds you 💖).

When it came time to make a band for Kai, he wasn’t sure that he wanted a gem, but knew he loved the rose gold in Johnny’s ring. We did look at some gemstones and threw up some ideas in procreate, but we ultimately decided to make the rose gold the center piece of his ring by creating a shape that mirrored Jonny’s gem and setting it off by antiquing the surrounding metal. We went through several wax models to get the shape and the width just right before he came in to cast his ring.

It’s so special to me to be able to celebrate these moments with friends and to be a deeper part of their story 🥂

Custom project story time ✨ Amber and Dan came to the studio looking for wedding rings that would express their love of nature while also incorporating specific colors and shapes that they knew they were drawn to.

We jumped straight into the wonderful world of sapphires to find their perfect gems before we dug into the design details. They were both excited to learn about the huge range of colors and cuts that sapphires offer (another reason besides durability that they are simply the best 💙). Amber knew that they wanted a larger center stone and started out looking for something more triangular, but ultimately fell in love with a green pear-shaped sapphire. Dan wanted a band with multiple gems in a more continuous design, and got to pick out the perfect shades from a box of multicolored Montana sapphires that I had in my stock.

Once we had their gems chosen, I mocked up some designs in procreate, carved and refined waxes until we were happy with all the details, then had them come in to cast their rings in gold.

Dan’s band features five multicolored gems in an intricate flowering vine design, while Amber’s green sapphire is highlighted in a simple ring hand carved with a subtle vine pattern to match Dan’s.

Exciting custom project highlight ✨ Jason and Sonie (also a local S**O businesswoman ) brought in Sonie’s incredibly unique engagement ring which they had been struggling to find a wedding band for. Her engagement ring was made by an artist in Canada and features a beautiful tension-set diamond in a very unusually shaped band. The challenge was to make a wedding band that matched both the style and the intrigue of the engagement ring (something more than just another band to sit along side it).

Our process was as unconventional as our project (we sketched, we “Frankensteined” models from wax and wire, we carved and cast), and we ended with a profile just as unique as the original ring and a band that fits itself perfectly around the original design to create what appears to be a single, elaborate ring. We decided to incorporate diamonds from their old wedding band into this new one for some extra sparkle and sentiment, and we added three flush that diamonds on a side face of the ring, which also has a very special meaning to both of them.

What an incredibly satisfying engineering challenge this was, and I’m thrilled with how beautifully this set came out!

New custom upcycling highlight ✨ my longtime client, Becky, is no stranger to custom jewelry and upcycling! For this latest project, she brought in a beautiful South Sea pearl that was set into a ring gifted to her by her father. The ring wasn’t quite her style, but she loved the pearl and wanted to create a necklace that would show off its beauty. I sent her some sketches and she selected a simple, modern design with a polished concave disc that reflects all of the lustrous colors on her pearl’s surface. The pendant is made in 18K yellow gold with platinum-set diamond accents that were upcycled from another piece of hers.

New inventory ✨ Come pick up Buried Embers just in time for that NYE part 🎉 This beautiful 17.25” strung necklace was inspired by the dying embers in the bed of a fire, black and glittering, with the odd pop of golden bright sparks and a few live coals glowing half buried in the ashes. It was designed and created by Glitter and Gold’s Caleah Dean ( ), and features multi-sized black spinel beads and 3mm faceted garnet beads (both expertly cut in Idar Oberstein, Germany), 14k yellow gold smooth and diamond cut beads, and 14k yellow gold findings. Its structured wire allows it to be worn alone as a subtly sparkling statement piece, or layered, with minimal worry of tangling.
