Moving on in our super "user friendly" series of Sunday Soft Wax Workshops, next up this Sunday is Soft Wax C. This is another in the series of one day classes that focus on soft wax sheets and wires to create models that can be "lost wax cast" into any precious metal, including silver, gold, and even platinum.

This one day class will teach you to make a "cap" for a natural quartz crystal and another for a pear shaped gemstone. This is a great technique for turning freeform or odd shaped stones into a special one of a kind pendant.

But that's not all! You will also learn some handy techniques for turning wax wires into your own ring design. The possibilities are endless! Then choose either the ring or the pendant to be cast in sterling silver.

This class won’t be back on the schedule until June, so don't wait if you want to be included in this really fun workshop.

Moving along in our series of Sunday Soft Wax classes, up next is Soft Wax A.

In this fast and fun Sunday workshop, we continue learning techniques for manipulating soft wax sheets and sculpting wax; this time creating both a sculpted pendant AND a ring with a bezel for a faceted stone.

The materials fee includes having one of your designs cast into sterling silver.

But wait, there's more! If you choose to cast the bezel ring, Peter will set the stone in your finished casting at no additional charge. Or you can always come to tutoring and learn how to set it yourself.

Two critical techniques to carve precise, professional, and successful wax models for casting? Just so happens they are front and center in this upcoming wax carving weekend class.

This Wax Carving B class will focus on hollowing, which is critical to making your pieces both practical for casting, especially in gold, and more comfortable to wear as well. Then we move on to "mirror image" carving, a technique which allows you to make (almost) perfectly matched mirror image motifs for earrings or bracelet links.

I have my own feelings about "designer label" jewelry, but this stuff is pretty cool. I do, however, take issue with the backgrounds. I would never have gotten away with taking these photos. Just saying. Read to almost the end and you will find an sentence referring to what we apparently are now calling "ornamental stones". Oh, and I think I will start naming my collections after medieval manuscripts.
