The Herzstein family, Jewish immigrants from Germany, were pioneering merchants and settlers in early 20th-century northeastern New Mexico. Morris and Lena Herzstein established a successful mercantile store in Clayton, built the town’s first cinema — the Luna Theater — and contributed to local commerce despite the hardships of frontier life, including encounters with outlaws like Black Jack Ketchum. Their son Albert, born nearby in 1907, later created the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation, which has supported New Mexico institutions such as the University of New Mexico, and today the family is honored through the Herzstein Memorial Museum in Clayton, which preserves regional history from the Santa Fe Trail era to the Dust Bowl. There is a small corner of the cube that was intentionally removed by the artist so the cube could stand at an angle. It is also where he chose to sign and title the piece. I apologize for the difficulty in seeing the signature and title of the work.

A couple weeks ago I was chatting with a realtor explaining how we help people and their families downsize, unpack, set up homes, and especially help realtors get homes cleared out sooner than later. She said she had a client who had a large Navajo Indian art collection…Could I help?
