My “Balance” project is finally complete! I have worked so long on this piece of jewelry inspired by a type of gramma grass. It is a totally kinetic piece, each little leaf is attached by a hinge.

Balance is the central theme of my work so I was very excited to work with this concept. I knew I had to dig deeper than my regular work. Perhaps I have grown through this project as well.

On a walk one day I was thinking about the theme and it came to me that the idea of balance is not static. It is often exemplified in a static way but that is the least of what it is - it is more of verb and an active one that requires your participation. We shift and sway along with everything else just to keep things from totally falling apart. Balance to me is also asymmetry, it is how things can be balanced and also not identical.

I knew this piece was going to be epic and I wanted to share some of the studio process with you here. I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my brain and my creative process.

A couple new designs ready to be worn! These pieces are small, about one inch long. Super fabulous everyday pieces. My new sandblaster set up is giving me the best finish ever (like seriously - ever!), the updated matte texture is just lovely. It has taken some effort to get the new equipment set up and dialed in, plus I had to rearrange to get my shop orderly. It was worth the effort though, I am very happy with the results. Choice of chain on the horseshoe pendant as well, I just wanted to see it on the paperclip and I like the combo.

Dear friends ~ I feel like I have been kinda MIA here but that’s because I have mostly been occupied working on getting my old house ready to sell and moving into a new house. I chose this song because the move was very intense and time consuming, it really hits! So close to the finish line on that, and getting back to regular looking days.

At the shop, I have mostly been working on a secret project I am not able to show you yet (yes it’s jewelry). However, I couldn’t resist using part of the secret project to make some tiny little leaf earrings, and I thought they would be perfect with the new petite horseshoe pendant which I have been chomping at the bit to release.

Can’t wait to finish these, they will be available soon!

This is special and rare color for chrysoprase. This stone I actually acquired quite a while ago and then decided I no longer liked the piece it was in, so I recycled the metals and kept the stone. I knew I had to do more to elevate this stone the second time around, I spent a long time working on the design with the elements at the bench. It was a bit more technical to construct than it looks - getting the angles cut and fit around the perimeter takes patience.

Snake is one of my favorite themes to explore as a jeweler. I think the form and it's ever changing and infinite variations are timeless. Some of the earliest adornments in metal and stone are serpentine. It is a powerful symbol of growth and transformation for all of humanity. I am drawn to this subject, and each time I create one, it never fails to lull me into the flow state. I really had to work with the metal here to get everything to look right, and for the parallel and intertwining sections to come together at the right places and angels, as well as for the pattern to flow throughout the body of the piece.

Oscuro collection gets an update!

The oxidized silver collection, Oscuro, is now available in a new finish, ruthenium vermeil. This is a new, durable alternative to traditional semi permanent surface patina treatments that blacken metal. I am very excited to share it with you, it is an element that is in the platinum group and it is used in many different industries. It is anti corrosive and hypoallergenic!
