If you have been following us for a while, you have noticed we always say "natural" before diamonds. Here is what that means and why it matters to us.

Lab-grown diamonds are not fake. That is important to say first. They are chemically identical to natural ones — same carbon structure, same hardness, same brilliance. You cannot tell the difference with the naked eye.

What is different is the story. A natural diamond spent one to three billion years forming underground. A lab-grown diamond is created in a controlled environment in a matter of weeks.

That origin gap has a direct effect on value. Because lab-grown diamonds can be produced in unlimited quantities, their price has fallen dramatically and keeps falling. Natural diamonds are finite. The earth is not making more. That is what holds their value over time.

At Edward's we have always chosen natural. Forty years of that same decision. We think what something is made of — and how long it took — is part of what makes it worth having.

The circle is the only shape with no weak point. No corner where pressure builds. No end where things unravel. Every point equally strong, equally far from the center. Ancient cultures used it to mean eternity not because it was poetic — but because geometrically, it is accurate.

A diamond forms under conditions that would destroy anything else. Three billion years of pressure, heat, time. It survives because of what it is made of, not in spite of it.

Every natural diamond at Edward's comes with a document that has nothing to do with us.

The GIA certificate is issued by the Gemological Institute of America — a nonprofit organization with no financial interest in how your stone is graded. They do not know who owns it. They do not know what it is worth to the seller. Their graders assess the cut, color, clarity, and carat weight independently, reach consensus, and issue a report that states exactly what the stone is.

Not what we say it is. What it is.

That document comes with every natural diamond we sell. It always has. We think that is the minimum a diamond should be able to tell you about itself before you decide it is worth wearing for a lifetime.
