12/29/2025 ~ A short walk up to the viewpoint at Rattlesnake Mountain Conservation Area in Santee, San Diego County, California.
No rattlesnakes are present here during wintertime ~ only May through July.
Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains may be enjoyed on the benches installed at the top of Rattlesnake Mountain.
Quiet except for the distant flow of traffic and the birdsong.
Restoration and preservation of this habitat includes planting prickly pear and coast cholla cacti. These cacti are necessary for the survival of the the coastal California cactus wrench.
Other wildlife living on Rattlesnake Mountain includes bobcats, various bats, coyote, Morph King snakes, roadrunners, San Diego coast horned lizards, dragon flies, California Thrasher, Red Shoulder Hawk, California Quail, Casings Kingbird, California Striped Kingsnake, Snowy Egret, Red Tailed Hawk, and Praying Mantis.
