Today was a stone setting day for me. I was so excited to set this black garnet, but I ran into a few issues. The stone has an irregular shape so I had to modify the bezel, in doing so I made the bezel a little shorter than I would have liked. I still thought I could make it work, but as I was setting my bezel pusher slipped, I thought I broke the stone! I couldn’t tell if I did due to the jagged surface and after inspection I was only 30% sure I had broken it, but that was enough for me to have to double check.

So I sawed out the setting. Opened it up and discovered I had not broken the stone. (Yay!). But now I had to redo the setting and solder it back in. So yes, added time but also added peace of mind. I knew it would always bother me. Plus the second time I made the bezel higher for an even more secure setting.

Being able to re-do a piece like this is why I love working in metal. Nothing is ever ruined, just modified.

I’ve been busy at the bench getting ready for !! So many projects at 80% that I can’t wait to show you, but in the meantime I want to share these fun fossilized palm wood earrings. I always say this stone looks like cream being poured into coffee. They look so good with the oxidized sterling silver.

A few new necklaces hot off the bench. Two tourmalines and a moon stone. I think I’m drawn to stones with little worlds inside of them. Flashes of color and interesting inclusions make them more one of a kind in my eyes. Which is your favorite?

Today was a stone setting day. There’s always some expletives being yelled from the bench on days like this, but this stone gave me no troubles at all. I’m happy with how it turned out! This unique quartz glows in milky yellows and soft reds.

Glad to be putting finishing touches on the new pieces I have planned for this Sunday!!

Thank you thank you thank you!! To all that came out this weekend to support an incredible group of artists. So many great conversations, and community building. Being an artist means a lot of time alone and in my head, so to be out among people and peers was really great for the soul. So many special pieces found their homes and I could not be happier.

Living in and working in the twin cities over the last few months has been both exhausting and invigorating. You’ll feel overwhelmed and burnt out, but then take a deep breath, look around and realize you are not alone. We are all in this, fighting for our culturally rich art-loving community.

Thank you to and . It was truly a wonderful weekend.
