My family has had quite the summer. (Head over to my stories for all the tea ☕️) Our home flooded, and was flooded an additional 3 times by a kooky plumber.

To repair the extensive damage, we had to relocate to a temporary home for the summer. I have very limited access to my work bench. I haven’t been able to create, and to be honest, I’m trying to keep my head on straight in this bonkers situation.

I have been reflecting on the things I’ve created, and what I’d like to create more of moving forward. I’m proud of the work I’ve done. It feels good to reflect. I’m excited to continue learning and growing and experimenting as an artist.

I like to call this an “inspiration season” because it’s been so unusual and hard to believe!

There’s something to be gleaned from all of this and I appreciate that.

What life looks like for me- off the grid- I love to slow down and cut the noise in January. My to do lists include things like trying new recipes, organizing cluttered closets and resting.

I’ve been researching things that fascinate me, and I’m really excited to turn that new knowledge into pieces I can share.

It’s been harder than ever to be an artist, and that makes me want to go balls to the wall with the ideas I have in mind.

I’m still very much on the tip of creating what my heart speaks, with out fear or acceptance or a sale.

These weeks of rest, and these themes and ideas are coming together in the most exciting way, and I’m so pumped for Lou Jewels in 2025!!

What will I create when I remove the question “can this sell?”

✨Ritual spoons✨

I pulled out the slow cooker last week and made my first beef stew of the season. Chopping the veggies, and seasoning the ingredients, got me thinking of all the rituals that come into play as the days get shorter.

These spoons can be used to add that pinch of salt to that comforting recipe.

Scoop out the perfect amount of warming tea.

Or add that scented oil to your bath.

Rituals can be spiritual or simple tasks that maintain our wellbeing.

They are important, and I loved creating beautiful spoons to celebrate those moments.

I’ve been playing around with different finishes lately in my work, and I am loving the satin finish that I used on all of the spoons, with the exception of one handle that was begging to be high shine!

I may or may not bring these spoons with me to my pop up tomorrow 🤭

Sometimes I get these outlandish ideas, and they stay sketches in a book because I’m afraid they won’t sell. And I’d rather spend my time on pieces that I know others will want to purchase.

A few weeks ago I shared that I was starting a creative series where my focus was removing the question “can this sell?”.

This is the first installment of giving myself creative freedom to spend the hottest commodity (time) to create whatever crazy idea comes to mind.

These ideas can be huge and impractical, boring, or maybe even something I don’t end up liking.

The point of this is the journey.

For the first piece, I knew I wanted to go big. In my mind the wearer sits on a throne. They are adorned and admired. These earrings they were created as art pieces that can also be worn.

When these earrings move they create the most beautiful chimes.

This process of creating these pieces was freeing. Things started off rather controlled. But mid way I threw out the rulers and plans and went off instinct, and I have to say I’m really happy.

This feels like a side of myself I’ve never really shared, and it feels very very right.

My parents are artists. They bravely shared their talents with the world, and I got to watch. Their friends were artists too, and on holidays I almost always got gifts that encouraged me to be creative.

I feel like I’m carrying a torch for my family when I show Theo the life of an artist. It has its ups and downs for sure. But I was able to find my passion was because I watched my parents in theirs. I knew what it looked like to truly love a craft.

When setting up my booth, Theo knew every step. He’s seen the entire picture, from sweaty afternoons in my garage studio, to bustling, lively markets. He sees my passion for stones and wanting to be better with every piece. He sees my heart. And I’m proud of the example I’m setting and the incredible creative community we get to be a part of.
