Bauer's Jewelry: still dazzling after 134 YEARS!!! The store was founded in 1891 by Charles Bauer who, in 1916, hired 13-year-old Laurence Schultz, affectionately known as Laurie, who bought the business when Charles died in 1929, and it has continuously been in the Schultz family since. Steve Shultz, Laurie’s great-nephew, started his apprenticeship in 1975. CONGRATULATIONS TO BAUER’S AND TO STEVE!
Today, Bauer’s is Saginaw’s oldest jewelry store and one of the oldest, continuously operating businesses in the city. And remarkably, the store has flourished in the very same space since, except for a 20-year period from 1952 to 1972. And today, Steve and his wife Mary continue Bauer’s long tradition of warmly greeting all who walk through their doors.
The pictures are bound to generate plenty of “ooh’s and ah’s” but they’re just a sampling! The store literally teems with sparkling jewelry and fine watches – unique items that you won’t find in the chain stores.
