We know, this is harder to swallow than dry turkey without the gravy... but as of Christmas Day we will no longer be operational.
WHAT is happening!? Change. Our location for the last 34 years has been leased to someone else. What!? We know. We put too much value in a bond we had with someone we thought was at the helm, that apparently is no longer in the position to do for us what they had been doing in the past. That's fine. We are at fault for that.
OK, Here's the gravy. Sam and I certainly aren't going to leave you hanging with your jewelry needs. Dad groomed us both to be fully capable of running our own operation. It was his dream that, at the time, his 3 sons have their own stores. Not only did we learn from him, but we've been learning for over 16 years since his passing.
Sam is in the planning stages of his operation. The 60 days that we were given doesn't allow for much as far as finding an ideal location and EVERYTHING that is entailed in establishing ANYTHING along the lines of what you have been accustomed to at Shanks Jewelers for the last 34 years. Especially when he's had to be on location to keep us functional during mom's retirement... and just everything he has to deal with right now.
Beginning fresh in 2020, I (Ben Shanks) will be working by appointment at 1101 Ridge Road #207 (the office building in our parking lot, formerly The Cameron Building and the courthouse) as Tommy G Jewelry Service, named in honor of my father. It's by far a different type of operation than our father's and mother's, but will hopefully be more beneficial to both sides of the counter. By appointment service allows me to focus on your needs so we can design your engagement ring or special custom piece, appraise, repair and/or do preventative maintenance with minimal distraction. It also leaves me some flexibility to care for some very important people as they may need in the future.
Although we will be completely differently entities, we are still a team. We consider this an expansion. As much as that store may seem like our parent's legacy, the legacy is truly Sam and I. Mom has assured me that Dad would be behind us 110% in this decision, as is she. Our aim is to make the both of them, and our loved ones proud, AND to make you as happy or happier with the service we provide you from here on out. We ask that you please continue to allow us to be your family's jeweler, as some of you have for generations.
I felt today would be a good time to give you notice, as you may all be gathered together with family to give thanks. We are thankful for the 34 years that our family was able to be under one roof, and an arms length from each other, and for you helping us to do so.
Anyway, what this means for you... we'll be liquidating... at Christmas time. We don't do the sales gimmicks. This is genuinely a valuable opportunity for you to put a bit more under the tree this year!
Thanks for the love. We love ya back. And if you can share a pleasant memory with us, that'd be awful nice right now!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
