I’m remembering that physical constraints on my workspace have always, always inspired better work and a happier me. Earlier this year I moved my studio AGAIN, this time down to my massive unfinished basement. I thought “wow, this is great!! I have so much ROOM! This will be such a great expansion!” But the opposite happened. I got overwhelmed going down there, the sheer amount of tools and work spread around the space, the fact that I couldn’t stay organized for the life of me, and, oh yeah, unfinished basements come with spiders. Not my idea of good coworkers. So I started avoiding spending more time than absolutely necessary in my workspace, which, duh, wasn’t ideal. Yesterday I said enough is enough, and I brought only what I needed for the orders I needed to make up to this tiny desk in my spare bedroom. It felt like coming home to where RWC started, on a single desk in a 317 sq ft studio apartment. Maybe I’ll end up moving the whole thing again up to this (much smaller) space. But for now this little desk will do, just like little desks have always done for RWC 🤍
