40 Years of Excellence
HISTORY
Troxel Columbias began in 1974 when David and Mary Troxel purchased 10 registered Columbia ewes. Through the years quality rams and ewes were added from the National Show and Sale and Midwest Stud Ram Sale. Both Dave and Mary were full time music teachers and joked they “farmed the night shift.” In 1990 we sold all the commercial ewes to the University of WI and ke
pt only the super Columbias who had raised twins and triplets. Sara and Laura became very involved in the daily family operation plus showing and trimming at State Fairs and various shows and sales. That Columbia flock continued until 2010. In 2012 we started to rebuild the flock again when Sara joined the business full-time. NATIONAL COLUMBIA ASSOCIATION
David was elected to the National Board of Directors in 1977. He served as National President in 1980 & 1981. He was on the National Board for 15 years. In 2009 Dave received the prestigious Silver Bell Award for his service to the Columbia breed. In 1978 & 1988 WI hosted the National Show and Sale and Dave was the Show Chairman. Sara’s passion was always sheep. In 1996, she was elected National Columbia Ambassador. Sara was also the first President of the National Junior Association. She is now serving on the National Board of Directors. Sara has shown and trimmed sheep all over the United States for many different breeders and breeds. Following in the family tradition, Sara’s children Courtney and Seth show along side their mother. Laura has come back to the family business as well, and is currently serving on the National Board of Directors. WISCONSIN SHEEP BREEDERS ASSOCIATION
In 1975 Dave and Mary joined the WI Sheep Breeders Association. Dave was President of the Sheep Breeders and was on the State Board for 12 years. He also served on the WI Livestock Breeders Assoc., WI Ram Test Station committee, State Fair committee, and the Wi Columbia Assoc. Dave, Mary, Sara, and Laura were presenters several times at the Sheep Industry Conference and gave clinics to many County meetings. Sara gave the sheep fitting and showing sessions at the two day WLBA Show Camp in 2002. Dave and Mary were the recipients of the Purebred Master Shepherd award in 1985. They were also inducted into the WI State Fair Sheep Hall of Fame in 2012. VISIT US
