Obsidian

Obsidian Dance to gothic and industrial classics, forgotten gems, and future hits with The Night Shift DJs on The final Obsidian was held in December 2015.

The Night Shift formed in 1997 as the resident DJ team at Ceremony, a weekly gothic/industrial/dark alternative club night that ran until 2008. After an exuberant, sold-out reunion party in 2014, some of the members decided to work together again on a new regular event beginning in January 2015. Obsidian was the evolution of Ceremony: A little more mature, a little more laid-back, but still a plac

e for all of Pittsburgh’s lovers of dark music to meet up, mingle, and move to the beat of a variety of both brand new and familiar tunes. The 2015 members of The Night Shift were DJs Circuitry, Callisto, TFS, and KellyA. Obsidian happened on the first and third Saturday of each month. Obsidian ran from 9 p.m. – 2 a.m. and was for ages 21 and up. There was a $5 cover. Obsidian was a nonsmoking event.

Our Story

Obsidian was a dark dance night held once or twice each month during the year 2015 at the Lava Lounge on Pittsburgh’s South Side. The night was founded and hosted by DJs Circuitry, Callisto, TFS, and KellyA, following the success of a 2014 reunion of their former club night, Ceremony. Obsidian ended in Dec. 2015, and the DJs went on to participate in other projects. The Lava Lounge closed in April, 2016.
