Up next for senior shoutouts is Varsity woman, co-captain, and social media chair, Alexis Gray

“I first met alexis my freshman year on the team, and even though she was on varsity at the time she quickly became one of my best friends.

Saturday practices became my favorite because we would practice with the varsity team and that meant I got to hang out with alexis. She was an encouraging and positive presence even before we were close friends and we soon discovered our shared sense of humor. Jokes at practice turned into long days at the library together, eating lunch between classes, and traveling to concerts.

Morning practices are super tough a lot the time and my first year on varsity alexis and I began a routine of texting one another complaining about how tired we were. Some days we didn’t want to go, but we both knew that we would keep each other coming back the next day. We spent much of the summer in a double together listening to music on the speaker, laughing, and working hard together to become better. I can’t even count the number of times that I would have quit on a hard workout if I didn’t have alexis next to me pushing me to keep going.

She is one of those people that motivates everyone around her to be better and to work as hard as she does. She is an incredible athlete and an asset to this team. I am so lucky to call her my teammate, co-captain, and friend.“

As we head into the spring season we want to show some recognition to the seniors on our team who have acted as inspirations and leaders to their teammates. This year we are starting our shoutouts with Varsity woman and team President, Allie Neidert!

“Allie goes above and beyond for Pitt Crew every day. She goes out of her way to make sure everyone’s efforts are recognized and appreciated. She takes on projects that have been neglected by the ten presidents who came before her. She coordinates with our coaches so their decisions align with our team decisions. She sweeps behind every board member when a task is inevitably forgotten. She advocates for our team relentlessly. She is a steady, quiet force holding this team together. Her ability to shoulder significant extra responsibilities with such grace is truly impressive.

On a more personal note - Allie is one of the most thoughtful and caring friends I’ve ever had. She remembers everything you tell her and always follows up. She checks in when you need it and makes early morning practices considerably more fun. Since freshman year we’ve been singing and laughing in the boat at risk of getting shushed by our coaches and coxswains. Wouldn’t want it any other way.

Allie, you’re the best pair partner anyone could ask for. You’re going to do great things at grad school and beyond & I can’t wait to hear about it all ❣️”
