During the 1982 Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics were unable to overcome a 3–1 series deficit as they had the previous year, ultimately losing Game 7 at home.

The Philadelphia 76ers became just the second team to defeat the Celtics in a Game 7 at Boston Garden (after the New York Knicks in 1973) and only the third NBA road team to win a Game 7 after trailing the series 3–1. Following the game, the Boston Garden crowd famously chanted “Beat L.A.! Beat L.A.!” to the victorious Sixers.
